This was disappointing. My wife and I made the trip to mid-city just to try this because it had high reviews from both Zagat and Yelp. We both shared the fish tacos and the Concha Negra (mixed), which we were told is the house favorite. First, there was nothing special about the tacos. The piece of fried fish they give you is tiny, and the sauces and condiments are your standard fare. You can get better fish tacos at a chain restaurant, such as _Acapulco_. The ceviche portion was slightly better, but it still didn't impress. Now granted, if this had been our first experience with ceviche, we probably would have been impressed. But having eaten at numerous ceviche restaurants, this was nothing special, and actually somewhat inferior to what I've had at other restaurants. The ceviche here had a distinctly Mexican spicing, lacking the citrus and salt seasoning I'm using to at Peruvian restaurants. We were both left somewhat bewildered as to why others had rated this restaurant so highly. However, it's possible some people who prefer a more Mexican style ceviche might prefer this. Lastly, we left somewhat hungry because we didn't want to pay the high prices for another dish that would leave us wanting. All in all, due to the location (the neighborhood is not great), the lack of parking (street only), the fast-food style service and the small portions (but high prices), I can't imagine I'd make this trip again. After leaving, I told my wife, if this restaurant were in my neighborhood, I'd probably go back for take-out, but there's no way I'm coming back to this neighborhood when I can get better in Pasadena, Glendale, or Hollywood where I can eat more comfortably.

La Cevicheria is a quintessential Los Angeles hole-in-the-wall gem. From the outside, you'd never know it was there. It's just one of many random shops/restaurants on Pico Blvd. But when you step into the door into the admittedly tiny dining room, you're about to embark on a voyage of the senses. The ceviche here is incredible, fresh and flavorful and filling, with generous portions of ocean-y goodness. It's BYOB. So feel free to bring a stealthy bottle of beer to pair with your bloody clam ceviche.
