H2020 @PaaSwordEU project making good progress:

We are pleased to be advising and supporting on the Advisory Board for the PaaSword project (@PasSwordEU) at the final plenary meeting in #Thessaloniki. The European Commission H2020 supported project is challenging but it is being well managed and addressed by a consortium, which is led by CAS Software AG. Some of the partners include UBITECH, Siemens and SEERC amongst the other partners. The project aims to provide a Holistic Data Privacy and Security by Design Platform-as-a Service Framework. Work is well advance. Now at month 30 of a planned 36 person month project. Further details about the project please go to https://www.paasword.eu/.

Making raw data work for fish farmers:

Today we received a copy of a report from the European Commission on work in @aquasmartdata. It was tremendous, recognizing well the commitment of the project team and the value that the project has brought to the fish farming community participating in the project. The #bigdata #dataanalytics project delivered much and the results are being enjoyed by other #fish #farmers across #Europe. The project has moved on and is now commercial. See www.aquaknowhow.com.

Great job team!

Thanks, Tom.

Scientific Research Collaborations:

We held excellent meetings with a number of organizations in Brussels last week on many critical issues, which were of cross sectoral interest. We know that many of these meetings will manifest into advances of research and science mostly likely in the initial form of a #H2020 proposal / project. Some of the issues that were addressed at these meetings include #bigdata, #standards and #market outreach. The solid #ideas and exchanges were very welcomed. We welcome these exchanges and look forward to working with some fine people in the coming months.

The UNICORN Project:

The #advisoryboard #meeting on the @unicorn_eupro project has just ended, which was hosted by University of Cyrus and involved @cassoftware, UBITECH and DIN among others.

See the following web site for details on the project: http://unicorn-project.eu.

In short, Unicorn aims to simplify the design, deployment and management of secure and elastic –by design- multi-cloud services. This will be achieved by:

- development and design libraries that will provide security enforcement mechanisms, data privacy restrictions, monitoring metric collection and resource management;

- enabling continuous orchestration and automatic optimization of portable and dynamic cloud services running on virtual instances or micro-execution containers for increased security, data protection privacy and vast resource (de)-allocation.

Towards this end, and building upon this umbrella concept, the Unicorn vision can be considered two-fold: (i) to enable software developers to design and develop secure and elastic applications and (ii) to increase the awareness of all stakeholders, in particular SMEs and Startups.

Unicorn will reduce software release time and provide a powerful tool for SMEs to improve software design and continuous productivity enhancement. The innovation activities in the Unicorn project will be based upon existing solutions and developments to the largest possible extent, and build upon the S&T results of European RIA projects including CELAR, PaaSport, PaaSword and ARCADIA.

Tremendous Security workshop in Brussels

We are recovering from convening a most successful #workshop on #Security #research in #Brussels on behalf of the European Commission in the area of the Common Information Space, which included the key subjects of #interoperabilty, #taxonomies and #standardisation amongst others. The importance of the Common Information Space is a subject that is great importance for cross-border and cross-agencies and effectiveness of their collaboration in a crisis management situation. Delighted that the participants from across many regions of Europe could see the value of the suite of software platforms delivered. Great team effort and cooperation between the European Commission and the three participating projects at the workshop - i.e. @SectorFP7, @EPISECC_FP7 and @FP7_SecInCoRe.

My sincere thanks to all involved!
