One of the most reliable in quality of product and consistent in characteristics of the menu items. The 4-way you buy at lunch on Wednesday will be virtually identical to the one you get at midnight on Saturday. Consistently good service as well. The place gets so busy at times that the manager behind the counter may actually direct you where to sit, but while the message may seem brusque, they're really just trying to prevent a logjam at the entrance to the restaurant. This makes for less of a wait for seating in general, and customers get served very quickly. BTW - for first-timers - this stuff has been called "chili" for lack of a better term ever since the 1920's. It doesn't resemble a Tex-Mex style stew, but something more along the lines of a mock-turtle soup. Also, the spice mix (which is always a cloely guarded secret among competing chili parlor companies) tends to be noticeably different from the Texas namesake. Ladling the somewhat thickened chili-soup over spaghetti might seem bizarre to lots of outsiders, but in fact there are places in Illinois and Indiana that have served "chili mac" with onions and shredded cheddar for decades - it's hard to know where that concept started.

A staple of Cincinnati. It is sweeter than the chili you might expect if you are not from Cincinnati. It has hints of nutmeg and cinnamon - in the winter time it warms your belly right up. The staff is usually pretty friendly. The food is quick and simple, good for a quick lunch in or to take out.

The only restaurant in the world where I've seen a line out the door at 3am. It's that kind of food.
