July and August are HOT in Venice, but for me it's one of the nicest times to be there. Away from the main few streets and canals it is actually incredibly quiet and peaceful - and with the beaches at the Lido on your doorstep... and water everywhere, it's lovely - you can be in an amazing church gazing at a Titian triptych in the morning, have lunch by a quiet canal in Cannaregio and still be at the Excelsior beach by 3 - where else?
With air con now as standard in most apartments it's the ideal place for a cultural summer getaway...
