The amazing Type 959 was Porsche's first true supercar, the world's fastest and quickest road car in its day, offering advanced technology that other automakers were only beginning to thinking about. Built for the Group B rally series, which required 200 or more production cars to be produced, the homologation version was named the 959, of which only 284 were built.

Introduced in 1959, Vignale's Maserati 3500GT Spyder was the creation of Giovanni Michelotti, at that time the company's star designer. This stunning Maser is the 33rd of 242 Vignale 3500 GT and GTi Spyders built.

One of Carroll Shelby's ideas was how well a compact American V-8 engine might work in a light, but sophisticated European sports car chassis. The chassis he had in mind was the A.C. Ace, a featherlight two-seat roadster that A.C. Out of that stroke of genius, the Cobra was born.

I hate the concept of concepts. It's a company showing you what they could build, if they could be bothered. It's a bit of a cocktease, really. But with that in mind, here are 7 of the coolest one off supercars and supercar concepts.

These Hypercars are the epitome of extravagance and over-indulgence. We'll never get to sit behind the wheel of them, but dreams are free, right?

The first Countach appeared at the Geneva Show in 1971-the same year that 'Hot Pants' appeared on our city streets - with a similar ability to distract. Big, bright and brash like the rest of the 70s, the Countach looked like it could literally take flight.

This fabulous LP500S has a lot going for it; it is one of only 25 or possibly fewer, it's in stunning condition having been spared no expense during the last two years, and it was the holder of 12 British Speed records in 1983. A unique opportunity.
