Fellow grad students and grad student-sympathizers do sign this petition. A tax-free graduate career sounds wonderful.

Grad student stipends were tax exempt until 1986. Sounds like a sweet deal to me.

Apparently, if 23,000 more people sign this petition, the white house will be required to respond. I'm not sure that gets us anywhere, but it's good for the public to be able to engage the government in some minor way. An example response is here: https://wwws.whitehouse.gov/petitions#!/response/taking-action-reduce-burden-student-loan-debt

Today I learned more about something that I have definitely wondered about sometimes but never actually rigorously pursued to find an answer: how do mosquitoes fly in rain? You would assume that mosquitoes when hit by rain drops, which are an order of magnitude heavier than them, would be crushed to death. However, turns out that their lower mass and low velocity as well as the absence of a non-constraining surface saves them from an imminent death.

Another cool thing of note is that mosquitoes can withstand accelerations of 30-300 Gs for a thousandth of a second! That's a superpower right there.

For all those amateur chemists and home-scientists, this is a very useful guide. It also contains links to some very cool resources for home science experiments.
We have featured projects from teenage chemist Hayden Parker, who is this semester an entering freshman at Willamette University, several times since he first showed up on our radar at Bay Area Maker ...

This is fantastic! Khan Academy seems to have taken the initiative to overthrow the traditional and relatively ineffective educational set-up, where emphasis is on completing a subject in a fixed time interval rather than mastering the subject on your own time. It's good to see that there are schools which are willing to adopt the new system.
