Article about the Coldest Spot in the Universe, my new NASA Mission.!
Anita Sengupta has a mission: to build the coldest spot in the universe. “Everyone thinks space is cold. It has a temperature of about 4 Kelvin,” said Sengupta, M.S. ’00, Ph.D. ’05 in Aerospace & Mechanical Engineering. “But the temperature that we’re going to get to is 100 x 10-12 Kelvin, so it’s a trillion …

Rocket science is street cred in the geek world, it seems
Chemistry labs. Comic book shops. Deep in the guts of computer programming code. It's popular to assume that these are the domains of nerdy guys—the type who failed gym class but get their revenge by founding tech companies where they make their former jock classmates sweep the floors.

Introduction
I work at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory where I specialize in designing systems to land on Mars, Venus, and return to Earth and plasma propulsion systems for deep space exploration. I also manage the Cold Atom Laboratory Mission (CAL), an Ultra Cold Quantum Gas Facility scheduled to be launched to the International Space Station in 2016. In the evenings I teach spacecraft design in the Astronautics Department at the University of Southern California. Opinions expressed are my own.
