Earlier this morning Zaman International School’s three campuses opened their doors to returning students as well as those embarking on their first days with the institution.
The atmosphere quickly returned to normal as buoyant students filled classrooms and corridors and engaged in all manners of conversation, which they had missed or had been cut short from just before the break. Their shrieks and laughter rebounded off walls and gave campuses the energy of youth.
Perhaps seen by some as a day when little is done, the first day of each academic new school year is actually crucial in laying some of the foundations which will ensure not only the success, but also the continued safety and well-being of students on each campus. From being informed of new policy and procedure to meeting their homeroom teachers and students new to the School, it’s a day when ideas and activity are rife as all get adjusted to what will be their routines for the forthcoming academic school year.

From principals absorbed in the finite details of preparation for the start of the 2018-2019 academic school year, to new teachers becoming accustomed to what life at Zaman International School (ZIS) is all about, it was without exception that all activity on the School’s campuses came to an abrupt stop earlier today.
With the aim to continue, in a more relaxed setting, the positive vibes which have been present over the past two weeks of seminars and training, a trip on the river had been arranged for the entire body of ZIS staff.
A short journey to Phnom Penh’s ‘riverside’ saw all board the vessel of choice from the banks of the Tonle Sap. Two stretches of tables on the upper deck allowed relaxed conversation to immediately begin and topics ranged from aspirations for the year ahead to details from trips and excursions which had been enjoyed over the break. As the boat set off on its voyage it wasn’t long before a feast was served and all tucked in, grateful for the thought which had gone into the provision provided.
While some chose to enjoy the views from the upper deck and take in the eccentricities and uniqueness of river life, others participated in a number of games on the deck below, with teams from each campus battling it out to the excitement and joy of all who spectated.
As the afternoon’s fun came to an end a group picture was taken as staff member alighted to the shore. It was an afternoon to remember and from the enthusiasm and enjoyment which prevailed throughout, another sign the ZIS team is fighting fit for the year and challenges ahead.

Zaman International School (ZIS) was delighted to welcome its Khmer teachers onto the Secondary Campus today for an induction session which was sure to spark their enthusiasm and affirm their conviction just in time for the start of the new academic school year.
ZIS is privileged to have a group of local teachers not only knowledgeable in their subjects, but also a joy to be around, and from whom one can always learn more about the charm and warmth of the Khmer culture.
Students love to spend educational time with their Khmer teachers, who have the genuine kindness about them which runs through Cambodian society.

The end of the first week of the two-week process of teachers familiarising themselves with their responsibilities at ZIS.

During Zaman International School’s (ZIS) Teacher Induction Week there was, of course, time for some good old-fashioned team building exercises.
Although these pictures show staff looking focused and composed there were plenty of laughs throughout, which only added to the positive vibe and sense of togetherness which prevailed during the week.

There was a real sense of excitement on Zaman International School’s (ZIS) Secondary Campus this morning as teachers gathered for the start of the School’s induction week.
Teachers from all three ZIS campuses reunited after the summer break to get down to the serious business of preparing for the official start of the 2018-2019 academic school year. On Monday, August 13, students will be greeted as they return to their campuses, so its imperative that staff members are ready to give them the support and guidance they deserve during these crucial years of their lives.
It is safe to say the bond between staff members is as strong as ever as there was an abundance of smiling faces as teachers arrived on the campus. The collective zeal and fervor from the body of staff then changed the mood to one of real intent as all got actively involved in the seminars and workshops which took place.
New ideas and fresh perspectives were banded about and it gave particular pleasure to see new members of staff engage in the important topics under discussion.
A truly international feel, created by the range of nationalities which can be found within the School’s teaching body, was the icing on the cake for what was a truly exciting start to life back at ZIS.

Zaman International School recognises the importance of team building exercises and one recent group excursion saw a number of staff members visit Siem Reap.
The band of enthusiastic teachers, teaching assistants and admin staff was in great spirits from the outset – even the coach journey provided opportunity for song and fun to be had.
Of course, Siem Reap is home to Angkor Wat, the planet’s largest religious monument and often considered one of the Wonders of the World. When the ZIS party visited the sacred site and its surrounding temples all marvelled at the intricacy of the workmanship and the sheer beauty before their eyes.
Back in the city itself not a moment was wasted of the short holiday and the group explored the sprawling markets, enjoyed numerous culinary delights and in true Cambodian style danced and joined in the festivities.

This morning representatives from Zaman International School’s (ZIS) Primary and Secondary campuses attended the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport where they were awarded certificates of appreciation for the schools’ high performance in management, administration, environment and learning and teaching techniques during the 2017-2018 academic year.
The Primary Campus took the accolade of the top private primary school in Phnom Penh which will have meant a great deal to all who do such sterling work with the young students there.
ZIS strives to be outstanding in all that it does and holds the cultural values and traditions of Cambodia in the highest regard. Therefore, to receive such praise from the nation’s Ministry is something which will delight each member of the School’s teaching body and give a refreshed sense of confidence that the right approach is being taken on the School’s dynamic and inspiring campuses.

The 2018 Kindergarten Summer School ended and it has been a great pleasure working with such wonderful children during this year’s programme. All of us did our best to make our summer school students’ time with us was rich in experience and highly beneficial in educational content.
Zaman International School’s Kindergarten Campus thanks all parents for their great efforts and cooperation with the activities which took place over the course of the month. The positives of parental involvement and support in all areas of children’s education can never be understated and we look forward to working with you all throughout the forthcoming school year.
