I'm sure its not a new thought, but between WSL, gVisor, crosvm, etc it almost seems like we're moving into this new space where Linux is basically the new POSIX.

Now I don't mean this in the way that some might take it, in that POSIX is irrelevant and Linux is the new standard (wither BSDs!), but just that it seems that all the various OS environments are trying to add this common compatibility for application portability, much as numerous OS vendors advertised POSIX compatibility in the past.

While its exciting to see Linux become this widely common platform, I'm guessing most vendors are pushing this to wean folks off pure Linux environments to their proprietary/controlled OS.

did you know that Walt Disney is actually hiring programmers to work on Flatpak?

https://www.entertainmentcareers.net/walt-disney-animation-studios/summer-intern-technical-platform-engineering/job/247123/

Project Overview
At Walt Disney Animation Studios, we deploy a variety of software applications and technologies to multiple different platforms. We have proprietary processes and software in place to manage the dependencies and deployment processes.

We'd like to look into alternate methods to deploy software and are interested in researching potential solutions. This internship will focus on Flatpak, as a viable solution for deploying applications and their dependencies, fully isolated from the underlying operating system.

Just clicked on a Vimeo link and experience was phenomenal. Instant app loaded immediately. I logged into my Vimeo account via Google smart lock. And I was watching the video in a native environment in less than 5 seconds of clicking the link. Instant apps and Google smart lock makes hell of a difference in UX. I hope we see it getting ported to Chrome OS as well.

Try it for yourself: https://vimeo.com/228013581

and from GNOME to elementary Juno, that apart the things +Daniel Foré and +Cassidy James Blaede blog, and they only post whats already ready and included on their internal test image, there are few more out there, and perhaps even more exciting!

the one is the elementary Shell S/C overlay help, that now we know its shortcut! it will be Super same as Unity! and here's a short video of it

https://youtu.be/uimdFbV5PJ8

but even more exciting is a new API for Blur in Gala, that they are working on, similar to deepin!

https://github.com/elementary/gala/pull/151

and btw these two desktops have more in common that cool virtual desktop managers! i think deepin forked Gala? ..anyway, both are spelled with low-case only :p

oh and as sidenote, something that is rarely mentioned, and if ever, the elementary theme for Juno and GTK 3.22 is a bit more flatter that it was in Loki and GTK 3.18! and even the change is small, it makes a big different!

..for better ofc! because the flatter the better :p
