Our visit to Mendocino was wonderfully enhanced by our stay at this inn! The room was beautiful and special. The views are exquisite and memorable! I highly recommend this place and Mendocino as a destination!

The setting. The resident cat. The decor which harks back to the 1920's creates a mood I like. But I could see that much is wearing out. I'm curious how Hill House will be remodeled under the new owners.

We booked through Expedia which is frowned upon by management. Different than priceline expedia lists the room description clearly. When we checked in the room was not a garden view but a 'hedge' view which was on the opposite side of the parking lot view that was right outside our room. The room was suppose to have a fireplace which it didn't also a sofa bed which it lacked. I asked management to which their original response was you booked through expedia which we are currently trying to correct our room descriptions with.... so too bad... I finally asked to pay for a room which we could fit in (2 adults and 2 kids) and the night guy said the following day we could get a different room for no additional cost. We got room 206 which was an ocean view had a fireplace and was upstairs. The next morning there was no hot water to take showers and when we got to room 206 they said they couldn't put a roll away bed up so our kids could sleep on the floor that they would bring extra blankets (YUCK) and the fireplace didn't work. Overall the maintanence guy was amazing and helpful. The night guy at the front desk was amazing and polite. Theresa was insane rude to my husband and made my kids feel like they were in the way even if they were sitting quietly in the lobby where some chairs are kept for reading or getting online. The maintenance guy moved a rollaway UP THE STAIRS for us!! so helpful.. switched a power module for our fireplace so we could have fire and was very understanding and polite. Restaurant was $$$ salad is like $16 and it's closed all the time only open when there is a special event. Grocery store near by which was the only reasonable place to eat under $100 for our family.. STAY IN FORT BRAGG!!!! Many more options for a variety of places to eat and things to do. Mendocino is great if your thinking of spending $$$$ . We spent $17 on 6 pieces of chocolate from the chocolate shoppe there. We spent $69 on pizza from the pizza place there a bottle of cheap wine and nachos. All together for 3 nights and a whale watching tour we spent $880!! And we actually didn't really do anything or eat out besides the pizza place and McDonalds in Fortt Bragg. It was dissappointing!

Their websites state free wi-fi. The freaking wi-fi only works in the lobby, no I don't want to sit there in the lobby until it closes just to have wi-fi access. The other down side was that even though we had cable, it was so blurry and fuzy, it was difficult to watched so we just listened to the TV. Ok, done with the rant. This hotel is a bit run down and probably has seen better days. The room was cute, has that old fashion wallpaper with flowers all over it, interesting decor for sure. They had extra blankets and pillows in the room. We had a semi view of the ocean from the deck outside our room, but it gets really windy there that we didn't actually get to enjoy sitting outside. The breakfast is standard continental, coffee, orange juice, bagels, toast, cereal, yogurt and fruit. What's nice is, the breakfast room is upstairs and you get a nice view of the ocean if you pick the right seat.

This hotel has plenty of parking, and is both quiet, and an easy walk to the village. The views are amazing, and the food and entertainment onsite are high quality. I noticed a lot of locals, which is always a sign of a good business.

Run down and dirty. Attempt at ambiance ends up with a bunch things they don't clean.
