Will Dental Veneers Last A Lifetime?

Dental veneers won't last forever, but if you take good care of them, they can last for between 10 and 15 years at a time. You'll know it's time for replacements when they start fading and chipping away.

How Do I Know If I Need A Filling?

The only way to determine whether or not you need a filling is to visit the dentist. Following a comprehensive oral exam, Dr. Willey can determine whether any of your teeth have cavities. If anything looks abnormal or out of place, he may also recommend X-rays to obtain further information. Once Dr. Willey has all of the information he needs, he can formulate a treatment plan that addresses any pain you're experiencing, while restoring your teeth to their healthy, original condition.

Gingivitis is the most basic form of gum disease; it causes your gums to become red and swollen, but typically presents little discomfort. If your gums ever bleed when you brush or floss your teeth, gingivitis is probably to blame.

Is Teeth Whitening Safe?

Thanks to modern tools and treatment methods, acquiring a bright, Hollywood-worthy smile is easier than ever before, but is it safe? Thankfully, the answer is a resounding yes. The main bleaching ingredient in most in-office and over-the-counter whitening treatments is carbamide peroxide, a harmless chemical that yields hydrogen peroxide.

Why Is My Tongue Yellow?

Have you ever stuck out your tongue in front of the mirror only to realize it was yellow? While this can be quite startling, it's usually nothing to worry about. When bacteria is able to collect on your tongue, it releases a yellow pigment. To prevent this from happening in the future, simply scrape your tongue when brushing your teeth.

What Are The Temporomandibular Joints? (http://ow.ly/RpUk50kqNZc)

The temporomandibular joints connect your jawbone to your skull and assist you in chewing, speaking, and yawning. However, if you habitually clench or grind your teeth, you also run the risk of developing chronic TMJ-related pain, or what's medically known as a temporomandibular disorder.

What Should I Do If I Chip or Crack a Tooth? (http://ow.ly/UKAv50kqNso)

If you chip or crack a tooth, you'll want to call David E. Wiley, DMD, right away. Otherwise, you run the risk of infection or other more serious complications.

First, if your mouth is painful or swollen, take an over-the-counter painkiller. Next, cover the chipped or cracked portion of your tooth with a piece of wax or chewing gum; this will lower your risk of cutting your cheek or gums. Then head to our office. Generally, Dr. Willey is able to perform emergency dentistry services on the same day of your accident or injury.
