Tomorrow: Saturday April 5, 3pm -- I will be reading as part of Iowa City's great Mission Creek Festival, the book and music fest put on by cultural impresarios Andre Perry, +Kembrew McLeod, Joseph Tiefenthaler and others. I'm basically playing backup for stars like Leslie Jamison, Rachel Kushner, Philip Glass. I will be sharing the stage with musician John Lindenbaum at Revival, 3pm, 117 E. College Street.

David Rubinstein, then a first year medical student, on the night of his engagement to my mom at her apartment in Queens. Filmed by his bride to be, December 1964.

Ten years ago today he died. RIP and love, Dad.

Extremists vs. extremists? Matthew Gonshaw is now banned from ever entering Scotland during the birding season for life, after his 51st conviction on charges of egg collecting. The once vaunted Jourdain Society has gone underground, its members communicating with each other using code numbers as aliases. Thanks to the @New Yorker for publishing, and @byliner“collecting” it.
