In his early career Roberto was featured as a principal dancer and soloist with such renowned Spanish dance companies as Jose Greco, Jose Antonio, Alberto Lorca, and Rafael De Cordoba, as well as many prestigious companies in the United States. Roberto is widely recognized for his mastery as a performer and teacher. His exceptional background had brought him to the forefront as one of the country’s most respected and gifted teachers and choreographers. His unique skills as a master of both flamenco and classical Spanish dance have kept students returning to his classes for over 30 years.
As a result of his reputation for excellence, producers of stage, film and television have sought Roberto out as dancer, choreographer and dance consultant on a number of prestigious projects. He was awarded the inaugural 2005 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Santa Barbara Flamenco Society.
As co-founder/lead vocalist/writer/arranger of the musical group CARMEN, Roberto Amaral took an adventurous, life changing departure from an already established career as an internationally recognized flamenco dancer and choreographer. Known as the first band to ever fuse flamenco with rock, both musically and visually, CARMEN caught the attention of the world with its 3 groundbreaking albums as well as critically acclaimed European and U.S. live appearances with such rock luminaries as David Bowie, Jethro Tull and ELO.
Now, as a solo artist/writer/producer, Roberto continues to combine his unique trademark approaches to songwriting, arranging and production to create a vibrant pop/fusion sound. Incorporating musical elements closest to his heart, R&B, flamenco, Latin, pop, rock, classical and jazz, Roberto aptly refers to his music as EXOTIC CONTEMPORARY. http://www.amaralstudio.com/

I'm working with this Flamenco Dance Studio on their next event. Here's their latest newsletter (went out on the #4thofJuly ):

Dear Flamenco friends,

I want to take a moment to update you on the happenings at the Amaral Studio and wish you all a happy 4th of July weekend.
But most importantly, I also want to acknowledge how grateful I am to enjoy the gift of liberty and freedom we sometimes take
for granted in this country.

As I write this FF newsletter, it strikes me as an uncanny coincidence that the title of Roberto Amaral's new CD is in fact
"The Freedom". We are now happy to announce the official release of Roberto's new CD "THE FREEDOM"!
To order digital downloads of the entire CD or individual tracks visit: cdbaby.com  For those who prefer packaged CD disks,
they will be  available through the Amaral Studio beginning Aug 1st, 2013. Visit amaralstudio.com for information about
Roberto's CD, as well as upcoming  live performances with Roberto's new 10 member Flamenco fusion ensemble "Fuego Exótico".

Throughout his career, Roberto has bravely ventured in and out of the boundaries of "conventional" Flamenco.
In his original compositions, with his trademark style and talent, he seamlessly blends together the worlds of Flamenco,
Pop, Latin, Jazz, Rock and R & B in quite a unique way. Many of you know Roberto as an incredible dancer, master teacher, choreographer
and Flamenco performing artist. But did you know he is an accomplished singer and songwriter ?  Roberto was one of the co-founding
members of the groundbreaking and internationally successful band "Carmen". After 40 years, Carmen is still recognized all
over the world as being way ahead of it's time. It was the first band to ever fuse Progressive Rock with Flamenco, both musically
and visually.

You can see various Carmen clips on You Tube Carmen 'Viva mi Sevilla'

and   Carmen - Bulerias

In his new Flamenco fusion CD, "The Freedom", Roberto, for the first time, has compiled 15 of the many songs he's written in the
past 25 years. It is something everyone has been waiting to hear, and the Freedom CD will finally be available for sale through the
Amaral Studio beginning August 1st. It will also be available for sale in the Scherr Forum Theater lobby on the day of the upcoming
Amaral Studio Showcase, "Incendio Flamenco" on Sunday August 11th. We hope you will come to see one of the two performances
that day. As a special added attraction to the concert, Roberto will debut his new musical group "Fuego Exótico", which will perform several of his original works from the CD. And to add more excitement and impact to those songs, Roberto has staged some of them as thrilling dance production numbers. This is the kind of show Roberto has been hoping to present for many years, and definitely one you don't want to miss.

You are welcome to share this newsletter with your friends and contacts.
For more detailed info on all Roberto Amaral creative projects you can also go to The Amaral Studio website at  www.amaralstudio.com

Be sure to mark your calendars for these upcoming events:

1.  A special Roberto Amaral Técnica & Bulerías workshop at Naranjita Studio in Anaheim on Sunday July 14th (a week from this Sunday).
E mail me at anamariasuraez@sbcglobal.net to get more info and register.

2. On Sunday August 11, 2013 the 3rd annual Amaral Studio Showcase "Incendio Flamenco" will take place at the beautiful
Scherr Forum Theater in  the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza. Please note there are two shows on Sunday August 11
at 2:00 and 6:30 pm.  Tickets are available through The Amaral Studio by calling (805) 8137212, at the theatre box office
 or at ticketmaster.com

No two Amaral Showcases are alike and I can assure you that you are in for something spectacular this year!
By the way, purists need not worry, there is plenty of "traditional" Flamenco dancing throughout this exciting, one of a kind show.

Wishing you a very happy and safe 4th of July weekend with your families & friends,

Ana María Suárez
Administrative Assistant to Roberto Amaral

ECCLA connects K-12 educators with museum, college and community resources. I would like to share with you just a few recent examples of our successful work to improve education in central L.A.

Just this week, ECCLA made it possible for 100 middle schoolers to hear a panel on video gaming careers when the Grammy Museum called last-minute and asked for help filling the seats.
A big ECCLA outreach push last week filled 50 seats for a free, 3-week hands-on science camp program at the California Science Center.
Over 300 people turned out to honor 62 teachers at our 22nd Annual Teacher Awards Reception at the Natural History Museum last month.
Our essay contests reached over 1,000 students this year.
A few years ago, our partnership with the MIND Research Institute leveraged $1.2 million of investment into math education in central L.A.  Our new partnership with the Right Side Literacy Project will likely leverage nearly $100,000 of investment into early reading programs in ECCLA schools next year alone.
We hope that you will consider supporting ECCLA directly with a contribution in any amount.  Even a few dollars makes a difference.
