Wow, and I was hoping that waiting a year would have made a difference. Nice to know the politicians are taken care of though.

Terrible disservice to the selflessness of a Marine... unfortunate to say the least... Govt officials should be the first ones to get this kind of news, not Warriors of our nation. This country is going to hell real quick... I'm sure our branch is next... sickening!

"Thank goodness for groups like the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), whose members are working to instill patriotism in today’s younger generation."
It's often noted that today's young people don't have a strong sense of patriotism like their parents and grandparents did....

The only way our democracy survives is if we truly understand and value the rights and responsibilities the Constitution provides us. Without that knowledge, and pride, the freedom we've enjoyed for more than a century will vanish.

VFW to Answer VA Claims Questions During Live Town Hall on Facebook

Veterans nationwide are encouraged to participate

The VFW will host its second Facebook town hall meeting April 24 at 2 p.m. (CDT) to discuss the VA claims process and veterans’ benefits, as well as how VFW Service Officers can assist with filing claims – a service VFW offers to veterans free of charge.

Similar to the VFW’s recent Twitter chats, subject matter experts will answer questions for one hour, providing useful and accurate information and resources to all participants in the town hall.

VFW Service Officer Ron Cherry will answer questions during this town hall.

Any Facebook user can participate by visiting the VFW Facebook page at the time of the event. Users will simply present their question in the comments section of the VFW’s post announcing the town hall has begun. It is possible that not all questions will be answered in the given time frame, so participants are encouraged to vote for the most important questions by giving them a “Like.”

“Like” the VFW’s Facebook page for more information about upcoming Facebook town halls. Don’t forget to join us LIVE on April 24.

In receiving the 2008 VFW Hall of Fame Award, actor Mickey Rooney made it clear that he was a soldier in the Army and not part of the USO.  He recounted his time in WWII in Europe at length, participating in what he called three-man "Jeep tours," often entertaining at the front lines. Mickey Rooney, a member of the Greatest Generation and life member of the VFW Department of California, died April 6 at the age of 93.  RIP, Comrade.

The Persian Gulf War official ceasefire was declared by former president George Bush exactly 23 years ago today. The Persian Gulf War is often thought of as the war that reconnected the American people with our service members. We are thankful for all service members, past and present, who have made sacrifices and risked their lives to protect the America.
