You are in France for today's World Cup match. That would be quite exciting if you hang around the right people. How it is a happy day for all the French people you see.

Yes, I was watching the scene around a minute after impact.  I learned from a neighbor who rushed down to help in his pajamas right after the impact that the driver was in the van; he crawled out the back of the van said he was "OK", but was a little bloody.  He is the custodian of sorts at the property.  Later when police and fire men asked for the driver people from the building told them he was resting upstairs.  I don't know if the EMT's checked him out.  They might have visited him through the front door of the building.  It's strange to see something right after it happened.  No police, no fire, no unusual sounds, no one running around until the vehicles arrived ten minutes later.
