Lookbook: Victoria Falls

It’s hard to imagine the scale of the Victoria Falls, but when you arrive, you’ll soon see why it's also called “the smoke that thunders”. http://bit.ly/1YyTQU8

The Victoria Falls is one of the Seven Wonders of the Natural World and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. At its peak flow around June, a mile-wide chasm 100m straight down is filled with a roar of water falling at a rate of 3,000 tonnes per second. While it’s neither the highest nor the widest waterfall in the world, it is the largest. This is based on a width of 5,604 ft (1,708m) and height of 354 ft (108m), forming the largest sheet of falling water in the world.

Seeing the Victoria Falls roaring and thundering is one of the most magnificent experiences. The moonbows that form from the reflection of moonlight on the water ensures that its beauty is endless. The highlight of your tour here will no doubt be Devil’s Pool, where you are able to swim on the edges of the mighty waterfall.

Forming the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe, there are two sides of the Victoria Falls to visit and both are well worth it.

The Victoria Falls is a safe and spectacular holiday destination and can easily be combined with a Big 5 safari or beach holiday. To start planning your unforgettable holiday to this destination, contact one of our expert travel consultants today: http://bit.ly/17RcXSQ

Focus On: The Timbavati Game Reserve

Welcome to the land of the white lion, Timbavati Game Reserve, where Big 5 game viewing and luxury accommodation come together to create one of the greatest experiences ever. http://bit.ly/24Li6WS

Located to the north of the Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve on the unfenced western edges of the Kruger National Park, game drives in this area will be sure to have you on the edge of your seat eagerly awaiting an up close encounter with Africa's majestic Big 5 and rare white lions.

The Timbavati is truly a spectacular region and you are sure to be mesmerised by both the incredible flora and fauna. The destination is home to over 40 mammals, over 360 bird species, around 80 reptiles and around 85 listed species of trees.

Here are five highlights about the Timbavati Game Reserve that will stir up great excitement about planning your next trip to Africa:

1. Wildlife is easier to see in the dry winter months when vegetation becomes more sparse and the animals congregate near water sources.
2. The white lions of the Timbavati were first discovered in the mid 1970s and became the subject of much interest and debate.
3. Game viewing is exceptional with an abundance of elephant, buffalo, kudu, zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, warthog and more.
4. The area is characterised as ‘savanna bushveld’ with six different landscape types.
5. Guests can choose to stay in lavish lodges or authentic tented safari camps.
