I think it's time for us to do something about the school system
rockstarjim22 asked for opinions on steps to take to change school. The followup responses show a consensus among core forum contributors: we need to develop credibility, network, and gain allies who agree education should serve the needs of learners.
Many adults, including educators, seem to agree -- but active conversation
between those potential allies and cognitive refugees
who are stuck in ill-fitting school situations is a challenge to pull off.
Doing so in a way that can reach parents, teachers, schools, and mental health professionals who don't
"get it" in specific students' lives
is as even harder challenge. But it's what we need to do to really bring about change.
So, doing something about the school system
needs to start, I think, with doing something about specific people's school situations
-- so, who's interested in presenting their situations to potential allies, and what kind of help can potential allies provide?http://forums.school-survival.net/showthread.php?tid=32143
