Sugata Mitra has been awarded the first-ever TED Education Prize. The prize money of $1 million will go towards Sugata's winning innovation idea, "School in the Cloud" which will give Indian students the opportunity to participate in what is described as "a computer lab where children in Indian can learn in a student-driven environment."

Our philanthropic arm, Google.org, has just announced a plan to provide $4.4 million to the Network Startup Resource Center (NSRC) and the Internet Society (ISOC) in an effort to improve Internet access in Sub-Saharan Africa. 

As stated, "today, 5 billion people still don’t have access to the Internet and the opportunity it provides...By supporting the work of NSRC and ISOC, we can make sure that those opportunities are available to more people in more parts of the world."

Last year, Google Enterprise launched Good to Know, our largest campaign focused on making the web a safer, more comfortable place.

On Safer Internet Day, the team updated Good to Know to include more tips and advice to help you protect yourself and your family from identity theft, scams and online fraud. You can learn how to make your computer or mobile device more secure, get more out of the web and search more effectively. Find out more about how Google works to make you, your device and the whole web safer.

As software and computer engineering impact just about everything we do, the founders of Code.org are eager to tackle the shortage of students going into this field. The nonprofit foundation is "aimed at making computer science as interesting to young people as smartphones, Instagram and iPads."
