The single best way to genuinely honor the sacrifices of veterans is to step up and end the cycle of mental health crises that have plagued American society.

Leaving extreme poverty may benefit healthy adolescent girls, but not boys, researchers say

Moving from an area with a high poverty level to an area with less poverty benefits the mental health of some teen girls, a new study contends.

Neither girls with health vulnerabilities nor boys without health vulnerabilities benefited from moving to a low-poverty area.

My parents loved me so much, and always tried to help.  They did everything out of ‘love’ and only enabled my addiction further.   I may sometimes tell families things that are hard to hear, but I know in my heart I am telling them what needs to be said to start making some real positive change.

Elton John has revealed he "wasted" a big part of his life using drugs:

"I was a drug addict and self-absorbed," said John, who explained this was in the early Eighties, around the same time the AIDS epidemic was starting. "You know, I was having people die right, left and center around me, friends. And yet I didn't stop the life that I had, which is the terrible thing about addiction. It's that – you know, it's that bad of a disease."

Rhode Island is poised to become the 15th state to decriminalize marijuana possession. The state’s General Assembly passed legislation last week that would eliminate the threat of big fines or even jail time for the possession of an ounce or less of pot. Instead, adults caught with small amounts of marijuana would face a $150 civil fine.

The Montgomery County Council will be holding meeting on drug prevention, intervention and education programs in county schools.

The meeting of three different committees is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. in Rockville on Thursday.

At an April meeting, officers from the county police department reported that certain areas of the county have seen increased use of illegal drugs, as well as an increase in abuse of prescription drugs.

Colin Farrell “made a decision” not to change his lifestyle when he became a father – even though he was a “drug-addicted drunk”.

The Irish actor is known for his hard-partying ways and spent time in rehab in 2005 where he was treated for prescription and recreational drug addiction. In 2003 he became a dad when model Kim Bordenave gave birth to his son James and now he’s sober Colin struggles to comprehend how he coped with parenthood.

Interventions are empowering experiences. Families leave with an understanding of each person’s respective role in the recovery process, as well as a renewed ability to lead their own fulfilling lives. Interventions create the opportunity for the individual to evaluate actions, consequences and potentials.

We stress the need for immediate action. We “raise the bottom” to help people receive the help they need before they destroy their lives and those of others.

African Americans across the state of California have concerns that their mental health assessment and diagnoses are inadequate, according to a state-commissioned report issued today. These inaccurate psychiatric assessments are a “part of the problem that leads to disparate outcomes,” the report said.

These Drug Cocktails Can Kill
Lots of drugs, illegal or not, are lethal on their own. But mixing more than one can often (unexpectedly) kill you much faster. The Fix presents some matches made in Hell.
