Cross-posting from the Gongfarmer's Almanac community a call for donations to help offset the cost of the free zine we publish annually:

-----

Gongfarmers Unite! - Call for Donations 2017

It is time to call for contributions for this year's production run of the almanac to support the free distribution at Gen Con. Last year we hand-carried and hand-stapled 100 copies of the complete 8-volume set with us and had an outstanding response from the DCC community who stopped by the Goodman Games booth. We would like to take as many copies as we can again this year, and that is where your help is needed!

Goal: Raise enough money to offset the printing cost of the almanac. The printing cost for the 2016 almanac came out to exactly $625.72, which actually was a fantastic deal made possible by being able to negotiate such a large print run (over 10,000 printed sheets!) that it took us into the next bracket of production with the FedEx group managing our order. So we are asking folks that can swing it to donate whatever amount ($1, $5, $10, $20, etc.) to help cover this year's estimated costs.

Based on the results of the fundraising, the number of copies we bring to Gen Con will depend on how much we end up raising as follows:

Raise $200: Take a limited run of copies of the almanac to Gen Con (20-30) for a first-come, first-served release. The almanac will still be made available digitally for free and via print-on-demand services at cost as always.

Raise $400: Take a limited run of copies to Gen Con (40-50) for a first-come, first-served release. The almanac will still be made available digitally for free and via print-on-demand services at cost as always.

Raise $600: Funded! Take the entire 100 copy run to Gen Con for free distribution!

That's it! Any excess amount collected will go towards either increasing the print run even further or offsetting costs of future almanacs.

How to Donate: We have set up a paypal me account to handle donations at paypal.me/GongfarmersAlmanac. Payments go directly to Chief Wrangler Marc Bruner, who will be coordinating the release again this year. Please let us know if you do not want to be recognized for making a donation - like last year, we plan to list anyone who contributes any amount in the credits section.

Thank you!

The other half of what I found at HPB, going into the things to research pile.

I think I missed this as a 10 year old when it came out, as it would have been right in my RPG/chit games wheelhouse at the time.

Cool find at half price books this morning. I didn't know anything about it prior to now, but it is the last issue before TSR started The Dragon, I believe. Articles by Gary Gygax and Tim Kask Among others.

Marc's novice guide on How to Write Adventures That Might Be At Least Mediocre

Step 1: Write. Something, anything. This solves 70-80% of the problems I encounter.
Step 2: When you can't write, run. This often results more in solutions to cosmological issues rather than actual writing progress.

I have been doing a lot of running these past few days.
