Tiled walls and a marble oyster bar create a simple backdrop for Mark Hix's British classics.- Google
"British food done very well, with excellent staff."
"A great addition to an already good area for all things meaty and British."

For a full on dinner, it's pretty pricey but I love to sit up at the bar with a drink and order their amazing freshly baked sourdough loaf! Also try the Hix Fix cocktail, lethal but so tasty.

Avoid for one main reason; the lack of service. The waiters operate more like a dedicated sales team while they kept forgetting things so our mains ended up being served in about 5 stages. When we mentioned after our main course that one steak was burnt on the side no response was given, peculiar from both a service stand point and the fact that the restaurant prides itself on doing two things (well); oysters and steaks. This is the 2nd restaurant visited of the HIX group, the other being the Tramshed, and both were disappointing so I guess I will have to draw a conclusion.

Well, aside from getting food poisoning from their rotten oysters and not receiving a refund as of one month later, I would have to say this restaurant is disappointing. Trussed-up gastropub fare that is priced to part nitwit financiers with the maximum amount of cash. Completely overpriced. The steaks were average, starters and desserts average, cocktails were good (but then they should be at £12 a pop) and did I mention their oysters were poisonous? Save your money (and your stomach!) there are a thousand better places to eat in London.

It's a shame that Hix is now seen from the outside as a chain. At times, their food and drink are deliciously good. At others, average. The staff can be very pushy when it comes to 'optional' service charges. I have no problem paying for good service when I get it, but at times, I don't. Tips should be earned, not expected.

This has got to be the worst restaurant I have visited for a long time. The tablecloths were paper, the staff friendly but inexperienced, ordinary glasses for a fine wine(£95) and the presentation of the grouse deployable - it came up, legs outstretched and with the feet attached. An absolutely terrible experience for £300.

A previous veteran to Hix Smithfield, I took my husband for lunch there this afternoon. I'm glad to say the standard hasn't dropped and the food was truly amazing. The maître d was welcoming, the staff polite and the menu great. Thoroughly enjoy going there and would recommend it to anyone. Definitely somewhere to put on your to go list.

Very, very good place. British food done very well, with excellent staff. There is no niggle; the food is great, the service is great, the wine list is great, the cocktails are (you may notice a theme here) great Highly recommended
