Finally did an actual routing job on my home build CNC.
Used my own router design, my own firmware and my own CAM software. So I'm quite happy, even if I did make a bunch of mistakes.

More details on the machine can be found at https://openbuilds.com/builds/limpycnc.7406/

Question, is there an option in LaserWeb4 to "close vectors"?
DesignSparkMechanical generates DXF files where each line segment is a separate line segment. So a box is 4 lines, disconnected from each other. The ends are not attached together, and thus cutting inside/outside the lines won't work.

VCarve as a option for this to "close vectors", which stitches endpoints that are really close together. But I cannot find this option in LaserWeb4?

(You could argue that this is a problem on the CAD side. If that is your reply, don't reply at all. As I'm looking for a solution, and it's not like I can change the CAD package)

Just made my first cut with my self designed self build CNC router.
Mostly uses openbuild parts. But also laser cut 6mm wood. A few 3d printed parts. It can cut up to at least 120x120cm. But only if i put an extra extension desk in front of it.
Spend less then 500 euro so far, of which a large chunk is the router itself. But the wooden parts and 3d printed parts where free. As well as the motors and control electronics (discarded Ultimaker 2 parts, working at Ultimaker has it's advantages)

It has a bit of flex in the Y direction, the Z stage tilts a bit due to the wood flexing. So I'll most likely replace those plates with alu. Prototyping with wood is so much cheaper :-)

The left Y guide rail is bolted to the wall. The right side has no guide rail and just rides along on the table, but still has a belt for accurate positioning.

Guess I'll better throw this in here myself to catch the reactions, before someone else throws it in here.

Yes, I'm not a fan of patents. But I understand the reasons why we as Ultimaker need to take these steps. Patent law pretty much requires it, as there is no other defense. It's the reality of today. The world was so much simpler 4 years ago when Ultimaker was small...

+Shai Schechter without causing more aggrivation in the S3D topic. What would you expect from Delta support in Cura? Feature wise (compared with Cura 15.04) only the round build platform is missing.
Which will be fixed in the next release:

+Gina Häußge I've seen a few comments on Octoprint with mjpg_streamer, is that part of your default setup? We are using it in the Ultimaker 3, and need to start a bugfix session on it soon, as it crashes regularly and sends out a corrupt data stream when the network is congested.
If you are using it, wondering what your experience is.

3D printing is becoming easier and more affordable these days.
However, 3D design can still be extremely complex.

My good friend Rick Companje from Doodle3D aims to fix this. And are making good progress on their app which makes 3D design not just easy, but also fun!

However, they need some support, there is a limit to their finances. And thus need a boost to finish it!

10&11 of September, we'll be at the MakerFaire Eindhoven.
We'll be running our EmptyEpsilon spaceship simulator. Running groups of 4/5 people trough our training mission.
Do you have what it takes? We'll find out there!

Short notice warning. But I'll be showing off our www.emptyepsilon.org setup at the Spark lap SPARK Makers event. The 4th of Juni, at "Graafsebaan 3 Rosmalen, NL" (Near Den Bosch, NL), opening time 12:00

So, if you want to feel like you are part of a star-trek crew. Drop by and play a game with us.
It will look at bit like this:
http://daid.eu/~daid/20150723_184520.small.jpg
And there will be a lot of shouting like "MORE POWER TO THE SHIELDS GOD DAM IT!"

There are also about ~25 other Maker projects being shown off. So plenty to see and do if you had nothing planned for the day and are within a earth lengths radius. (Or more likely 100km)

(Background info. I started building this simulator about 2 years ago. For fun, at the office. And it ever evolved after that)
