Setting up OpenAOS Gingerbread rom on an Archos 101 using kboot.
Ensure you are running the latest Archos firmware. This can be done by checking for updates from android, or manually downloading from the archos website and then installing in the recovery menu.
Download Kboot from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1522024
Extract the files and copy the kboot folder to /mnt/storage on your archos.
Configure the files for OpenAOS Gingerbread Bull.
Download the following files from http://www.openaos.org/wp-upload/gen8/2011-12-24/ReleaseCandidate_UNSUPPORTED/
Extract these files to a temporary directory.
Rename the file openaos-gingerbread-bull-gen8_*.img to openaos-gingerbread.img
Rename either data_256, data_512, or data_1024 to data.img
depending on if you would like a 256MB, 512MB, or 1024MB data partition for Gingerbread.
Create a file called menu.lst with the following line. (If you are using windows you may need to use an editor that supports linux formatting)
Create the folder Gingerbread in /mnt/storage/kboot/os on your archos
Copy the following extracted files to the Gingerbread folder on your archos. initramfs.cpio.gz, zimage, and openaos-gingerbread.img
Copy menu.lst and data.img to /mnt/storage on your archos.
Download the SDE from: http://www.archos.com/support/download/firm_dev/firmware_archos_android_gen8.aos
This will void your software warranty.
Install the SDE - This needs only be done the first time you make changes
Reboot Archos device and hold down "Vol-" button after screen goes black
Choose "Update Firmware"connect your Archos to your computer via USB
Upload the SDE firmware file to your device
Safely disconnect the USB connection
Press ok on Archos device
Hold down "Vol-" button after screen goes black to enter the menu again.
Install zImage and initramfs.cpio.gz for Kboot
Go to "Recovery Menu"
Choose "Developer Edition Menu"
Next choose "Flash Kernel and Initramfs"
Connect your Archos device by USB to your computer.
Transfer the zImage and initramfs.cpio.gz you downloaded for kboot to your Archos.
Safely disconnect the USB connection.
Press ok on Archos device.
Reboot and hold down "Vol-" button again after screen goes black
Choose "Developer Edition"
You should now be presented with the kboot menu, from here you can choose Gingerbread to start the OpenAOS multiboot menu, then choose Gingerbread again.
The first time you boot Gingerbread this will take quite some time, possibly even up to two minutes.
Once in Gingerbread connect to WiFi
Open the browser and choose bookmarks.
Click on the one starting with "Cyanogenmod". This will bring you to the wiki page of Cyanogenmod with the latest google apps download.
Download market for Cyanogenmod 7.
Once the device is started you will be prompted by the android wizard.
Make sure to re-select your language in the setup or the market may crash.
So far I haven't figured out how to directly boot Gingerbread from Kboot, but I will update if I find out how to do this.
