Look at these beauties! We still have several perennials, perfect for pollinator habitats, available for $3 each. This weekend is calling for nicer, cooler weather in the morning--perfect opportunity for planting if you haven't gotten a chance to get out to that perennial garden yet! Stop by the nursery or give us a call at 970-491-8429. http://ow.ly/i/lDTIM

Thanks to Synergy Ecological Restoration's collection from last weekend, we have a bunch of super ripe Golden Current that Zach has been extracting seeds from. Check out the process through these pictures! First the Golden Current fruit (including seeds) are blended with water to remove and separate the seed and flesh. The seed and water mixture are then screened through three different sized screens to further separate the seed from the pulp of the fruit. After the pulp of the fruit has been completely removed, the seeds are then allowed to dry before our first attempt at stratification/germination.

Our garden is looking incredible! We have been harvesting pounds upon pounds of zucchini for the past few weeks and it looks like cantaloupe, tomatoes, and several other crops are soon to be next!

Successfully harvested 11.2 lbs of Caragana seed from mature plants out in our fields! Caragana are a legume (bean family) and come in a pod. Last week we kept the harvested pods in the greenhouse so that the heat could open the pods and the seeds cold be released. After a screening process to remove the pods, we have these beautiful seeds that will provide a season and a half worth of seeding in our fields.

Ribes aureum aka Golden currant. These currants were collected last weekend in Big Thompson Canyon by volunteers with Synergy Ecological Restoration. They will be used to seed future crops of Golden Currant here at the nursery as part of our native seed collection initiative. Are you interested in collecting seed with Synergy? The group is still in need of volunteers for the July 23rd collection! If you are interested in the collection event, contact Kay W: kay@synergy3.org

The crew has been busy seeding for the last week and are on the way to filling up zone two of the greenhouses! We are primarily seeding deciduous species so that they have time to grow in the next six months before being moved out to the new hoop house before the next round of seeding. Some of the species seeded were chokecherry, antelope bitterbrush, four wing saltbush and mountain mahogany. http://ow.ly/i/lczey http://ow.ly/i/lczdU
