I also am saddened that Mallett has taken himself out of the running.
Former South Africa coach Nick Mallett rules himself out of contention to become England manager, but Eddie Jones declares his interest for the post.

Last bit of posting for the morning (time to do work, woohoo...actually, time to eat breakfast, then work):
American Banker runs this eye-opening chart today, showing what's happened to the availability of free checking over the past couple of years.

On a related note, I heartily encourage people to track down the 'Grand Theft Mario' skit on Robot Chicken; it's pretty dang funny.
jjp9999 sends word of a game in development that mashes up Super Mario Bros. and Portal. Dubbed Mari0 by its developer, the game is being built on the Löve framework and will be released for free. The...

Not sure if the cyberpunk novels I read in college (and still read occassionally) mentioned a near-space littered with abandoned space stations, but that feels right for the genre.
NASA warned Monday that the International Space Station may have to be abandoned at least temporarily later this year, following the launch failure of an unmanned Russian rocket that is also used in ...

Really, it's not surprising; I am just surprised it took so long for someone to call the providers on this.

So, having finished Mieville's Kraken, I've decided to catch up on my Gibson; next on the reading list will be Pattern Recognition, followed by the other two books in that series...

(With the reading side project devoted to finishing another Osprey book or two by Turnbull; I just finished Ninja...which, oddly enough, I think makes it the first Osprey I've actually sit down and read cover-to-cover; usually I just skim through the books, and absorb all the contents that way.)

I feel kinda bad for MJ; he's got a World Cup, and he's won Six Nations...and he has over a 50% success rate as England coach. But, no, I wasn't a fan of England's play during the RWC; I also wish that England would stop picking the same set of players time and time again...
Martin Johnson says his decision to quit as England manager is in the best interests of the team and himself.

You know, the more I read about Windows 8, the more excited I get for the OS, and I haven't been excited for a Windows OS in a long time (I think the peak of my excitement was when they made the switch to Win 2K...which, funnily enough, is the only version of the OS I've never got the chance to support, IT-wise). And I like Vista -- except for a failed video card (wow, their new driver model makes blue screens a lot more dramatic), I haven't had any problems with the OS...*knock on wood*

If the stars align for me in terms of permanent or permatemp employment, I am seriously thinking about upgrading...

I don't know how the Borders sales are going elsewhere, but around here (specifically, Folsom), they had slightly less books than they did when I talked about the sales several weeks ago; the sales now start at 50% (and I think there's a discount for volume on top of that). If you have a Borders near you, and you haven't hit the sale yet, you might want to take a look.
