Tremendous views, a unique place. Best to catch the cable car during the cool of the morning and journey to the very top, take your time on the descent and soak up the fabulous scenery. On the first stage take a cooling stroll through the rainforest.

I went there with renowned gourmond Chef Pape Du Nerf. We were there to sample the famed Sugar loaf, a local delicacy that some artisans had carved into a giant statue of Jesus back in 2002. For a small fee you can take a bite out of the statue and a pastry chef will replace your bite for a tip. Well, all I can say is the story we were told was dead wrong. Chef Pape Du Nerf tied a napkin around his neck and made to take a giant mouthful. Alas he chipped all his teeth on what was, we found out to our chagrin, not a sugar loaf, but a concrete monument to an obscure prophet. Chef Pape Du Nerf was most upset. Luckly, being a true gourmet, he travels with a team of dentists and they fixed him in no time. All in all Sugar Loaf mountain is neither made of sugar or a loaf of some kind. Most disappointing.

It can get very crowded if it's a sunny day, so be prepared to stay under the hot sun at the line for a long time. I suggest going directly to the top and then spend more time on the mid station at the return.
