This month the MediLodge of St Clair Resident of the Month is Irene. For Halloween, Irene and CNA Sarah dressed up like Rosie the Riveter. During World War II, Irene worked in a factory on Mack and Meldrum in Detroit. This was a time when all of the women went to work because all the men were off at war. Rosie the Riveter was a symbol of feminism and women’s economic power. Irene loved being considered a part of this historic group who changed history in the way that women were looked at in the workplace. Her name is listed on a plaque at the VFW hall in Algonac. She plans on having a military funeral.

Tabs for Tots!
Colleen Mick, RN Inservice Director at MediLodge of Sterling, proudly announces the end of the “Tabs for Tots” campaign. The goal was to collect tabs for Shriners Hospital for Children, Love to the Rescue. The tabs will be exchanged for cash and the donation will help sick children receive free assistance with their medical care. Staff had a blast with this. Colleen Mick and Theresa Quigley had a friendly monthly competition to which Colleen always lost. The Lodgers like Ed and Waldo were daily participants and proudly collected for Colleen’s team, even family and guests pitched in. The entire staff at MediLodge of Sterling pitched in throughout the course of the campaign. I proudly announce we collected a total of 16.5 pounds! Way to go team and a big “thank you” to everyone!

The team at MediLodge of Taylor assembled over 150 bagged lunches, which included a submarine sandwich, chips, apple slices and a drink, packed the MediLodge of Taylor bus with all of the donated clothes, hats, gloves, jackets, and shoes and drove to help those in need. Our first stop was Roosevelt Park where we met a gentleman who has lived on the streets of Detroit for a number of years. Then we packed the bus again and went to the corner of Clifford and Sproat where we again gave out lunch and clothes and ended our journey at the Michigan Veterans Foundation Detroit Veterans Center and gave our remaining lunches and clothes to the veterans whom reside there.
It was a humbling experience to see and be part of.

On June 14th MediLodge of Montrose celebrated our annual Strawberry Social. Families and local residents were invited to share in our delicious strawberry shortcake with homemade whipped cream and popcorn. Kids and adults were lined up to have their faces transformed by our speciality face painter, Twink from A-1 Clowns. She was busy all afternoon doing whole face painting complete with glitter for our little attendees. At the other end of that table, Slo-Poke was making an amazing assortment of balloon creations. Those spanned monkeys in a tree, to fluttering butterflies, to creepy spiders. The very special bounce house with a basketball hoop and super slide were a big hit. Residential Home Care brought removable tattoos for the kids and helped to fill helium balloons for them. We were very excited to have a live band again this year with music presented by the Corner Boys. The petting zoo was brought out by Wilderness Trails Animal Park in Frankenmuth. It featured some really fun animals that the kids and adults could pet. We had a baby coyote, a baby camel, an alligator, and a pair of baby goats joining us this year! A new addition to the social was that we highlighted our event sponsors as vendors at the event which allowed attendees to get more familiar with the services that they offer. Our Strawberry Social would not have been possible without the generous support of McLaren Home Care Group, Residential Home Care, A-1 Hospice, Cranberry Park Assisted Living, Brookdale Senior Living, Gentiva Home and Hospice, the Veteran’s Support Center, ComForcare Homecare, Right at Home Homecare, Heartland Home Care and Hospice, Twin Township Ambulance and STAT EMS.
