Learned to do a backflip on the first day out. I credit the simulators for giving me the confidence to even try it.
Unfortunately I learned I suck at line of sight flying. When I started out I thought the quad was pointing the other direction. So that's the cause of the erratic lift off.

I may have neglected to use loctite.
All in all today was a successful first day as a pilot. Used up 1 battery on tuning, and 1 flying around and trying some acrobatics. I got the backflip down pretty good. Video of that once I get from my buddy.
Oh, and no actual broken parts or props. Woohoo!

+Blake Hardison Unfortunatly I can still do a good bit of tunning. I still have a little bit of wobble on yaw. I need to play with my throttle on my tx some more also. Honestly, I think I got pretty lucky with where tuning is so far.
The motors are kingkong 2205 2300kv. Just some cheapo's that are alright. I managed to knock a magnet out of socket on one. Had to disasemble the motor to get it back in place. Not sure if that eas build quality or my several hard knocks. It seems to free spin properly again. Gonna test it on my lunch.

Oh, worth noting. I am only running 4045 props. Got them on accident.

This is about as far as I will get for tonight. All my ESC's are secure. One slipped a little, so I shot some extra hot glue on it. It's still on a kilt, but it isn't moving.
Got the motors mounted and started wiring and quickly realized I had one of my CC motors backwards. Gave up for the night, but damn I am getting excited. All's good and so so close.

Got my littlebee esc's today. I got the motor leads soldered on and trying to figuring out placement. I am hell bent on tucking these little guys between my spacer. I am just not a fan of that huge hole in the center of the bottom plate. Doesn't leave a lot of surface for sticky tape.
Any ideas on how to secure these? I could zip tie them, however what you see of the esc is about it. I have way to much heat shrink on.

Interestingly enough.. These came witout any heatsink. Thats a bit concerning. Although a lot of people run these with higher kv, and more balls than I will have.

I am finding how expensive quadcopters as a hobby can be. So far I have smoked a FC and an ESC and logged 0 flight time since starting my build over a month ago.
The FC I am sure was my fault with a solder bridge from a 5v pad to a resistor pad. The ESC I have no clue on. I was setting my minimum values, and poof.

I think I might just get a bind n fly quad, then try this diy again later.

As idiotic as this looks... Damn it I wish my quad was in the air already.
Leave it to the Canadians to take the 4th to another level.

Just received my 3d printed parts today for my zmr250. I am still waiting on my motors, tx/rx, fpv, and new PDB from banggood. I had to do a quick mock-up though. Man this thing is gonna look nice.
It's gonna be real nice to mount the ESCs in-between the bottom spacer. Not to mention the unimount for vTX and RX.
Got the 3d printed accessories from +Great3D. It only took a few days for delivery too.

This is as far as I am getting until I get my KISS FC. Will do some more cleaning up then. No cam yet, waiting for the FC on that also. It's mounted, just not wired.

Lmao! This thing is drunk in horizon mode. Acro seems okay. Not sure how important horizon is to me any way, but playing with the pid's might be good practice.

I might have to get in on this. Even though they are just toys, 2 ready to fly fpv (toy) quadcopters and a bunch of accessories for $100 is a really solid deal.

Edit: Oh yeah. It comes with 2 goggles for your phone also.

Finally (mostly) done with my 250 quad build. A few setbacks. 1. It is starting to rain, so no testing. 2. I accidently got 4045 props instead of 5045. 3. I decided to go low profile without measuring the height of my fpv camera.
All in all I am happy with how it tuned out... Even though I just spent 8 hours on something I still can't use. Lol

Dad, yes it can take video once it gets in the air. I have some goggles the video will be transmitted to. A secondary (better) camera can be fixed to the top to record video.

By the time I had arrived to the party, most of the pizza had already been eaten. I suppose that goes to show how great it was. The couple of slices I did get tasted great, even the next day. I guess your pizza holds longer when you use premium ingredients. : )
