The College Music Society notes with great sadness the passing on Monday, July 11, of Samuel A. Floyd, Jr.

Dr. Floyd was the Founder and Director Emeritus of the Center for Black Music Research at Columbia College, Chicago.

All who knew Dr. Floyd personally, or had the opportunity to work with him professionally, profoundly mourn his loss. We are grateful for the rich legacy of work he leaves behind that has forever changed the landscape of music and higher/tertiary education.

A full biography of Dr. Floyd is available here http://ow.ly/JUNs302vEdP
