Maiko is both hip and authentic, with a refreshing atmosphere high in energy and dedication. The food is a compilation of east meets west.

A Japanese menu with Western influences (from sushi to hanger steak) in a brick-lined dining room.- Google
"I like the Green Dragon, Spicy Yellow Tail, and Chorishi's Fire rolls."
"Excellent happy hour with a friendly staff."

Been to Maiko for lunch 4 times in the last two weeks. Food is great, atmosphere is cool and laid back. Makes me want to come by during happy hour or in the evening. Probably a great place for a date. Sushi is consistent - and they have a great lunch combo (two rolls, miso soup and salad) for a reasonable price. No, great price. The hostess is a cutie too and always helpful with to-go orders. I haven't had to wait long at this place to get great service.

Thanks for coming to see us so much in the last two weeks, Ron. Very happy to know you've had a great lunch experience each time! I'll pass your compliments on to my staff, and I hope to see you just as frequently going forward. Take care. -Benny, Owner

Wasn't really thrilled at all, seems fairly basic - which if I wanted basic I'd go to heb for their sushi. Not to say it's bad, just not at all what I'd expect from this side of town. So for the price it isn't really all that great to me. There's better places not far away. And god forbid you're here within three hours of closing time you'll get the stink eye from half the people working there. Look, I'm not a slow eater, I need really only one drink which means you don't have to run back to see if I need another, and I'm not gonna be there really more than the time it takes to get the food. I tip well, and I don't leave a mess, but by all means stare me and my coworkers down. The chef does obviously know what he's doing I can see the skill just in the food but I feel the kitchen is really limited by the menu, I'd like to see their ideas become more prominent throughout the menu

James, first of all, I'd like to apologize for any hostility you felt like you received from our staff. That is never our intention and is definitely not our standard of service. I have taken your comments into consideration, and the issue will be discussed promptly. Second, thank you for the compliment on our craftsmanship! We take great care in the preparation of our sushi, so it is rewarding to know that you can see that. My hope is that you decide to give us another chance so we can show you what we're really capable of. -Benny, Owner

Go for the happy hour! I wouldn't say it's the highest quality sushi in Austin. But the service is generally good - I've never had a bad experience. Their rolls are just as good as places like Piranha. Their sake bloody mary's are the best. Their happy hour is pretty much every evening on weekdays, so very very much worth checking out.

I'm so glad to hear you love our happy hour, Michelle -- especially those Sake Bloody Mary's! That's a drink we love to serve. I know we can give you a 5-star experience next time, so hope we get a chance to welcome you back again soon! All the best, Benny, Owner

Maiko Sushi Lounge is a below average sushi restaurant that has the hope of being considered a "lounge". The service is usually on the slower side and the owner/gm can be rude. With Austin's copious supply of sushi restaurants I wouldn't recommend it as Maiko Sushi is a stones throw away and Uchi is a short cab. Better sushi options: 1. Uchi (premium) 2. Sushi Junai (quality all you can eat sushi) 3. Maiko (low cost above average sushi)

As you can imagine, we’re concerned to see we only provided you with a 3-star experience. That’s certainly not the impression we wish to leave, and we’re eager to make this right. A second chance to impress would truly mean a lot to us -- I'm sure we can really wow you. All the best, Benny, Owner

Pretty good. Nothing amazing and pretty expensive. But most sushi places are, I guess. Sometimes the fish didn't seem super fresh. Nice atmosphere and good service.
Response from the owner - 2 months ago
Hey, Isaac -- thanks for coming by and sharing a few rolls with us, but I'm sorry if you felt your experience was lacking in any way. We put a very high premium on using the freshest ingredients in each and every one of our rolls, so I apologize if you felt yours was not held to those same standards -- we believe that dedication to quality ingredients is essential to providing the best meal possible to our customers. My staff and I are always available to help you in any way that you may need, and I'm glad to hear this commitment to customer service is apparent to you and your fellow diners. -Benny, Owner

I'm always on the hunt for decently priced and good quality sushi. This place hit the spot - particularly their reverse happy hour. Rolls are $4 at that time and a lot of apps are inexpensive too. A tip for large parties - they don't split checks!
