In 2013 the SeaWorld Rescue Team responded to an unusually high number of sea lion strandings along the California coastline. Unfortunately the cause of this Unusual Mortality Event (UME) is still unknown and continues to effect the California sea lion population.

Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute & SeaWorld & Busch Gardens Fund are trying to change this!

International Manatee Day was this week and what better way to celebrate than with the return of two rescued and rehabilitated manatees!

Both of these manatees, like so many others, were suffering from life-threatening injuries due to human activities, but thanks to the experts at SeaWorld Orlando and their partners were given a second chance at life.

You can join SeaWorld in the effort to keep these manatees safe! Click here to learn how: http://bit.ly/2bXzql3

This past week, we recognized International Manatee Day on September 7th.

Conservationists from the organization Elephants Without Borders recently returned from a trip to Africa for the Elephants Count - Great Elephant Census, a project to count all of Africa’s savannah elephants.

The results? As some have described it…devastating, disturbing and horrible.

As upsetting as the results of this census were, Founder of Elephants without Border Mike Chase explains that this species is at a tipping point and if there is any hope we need to act now.
The time is now to help our world's elephants.

The count is truly alarming. It is imperative to find a solution to poaching, human conflict and loss of habitat. Zoos may be the only hope for elephants and other species.

Just over a month ago, experts from the SeaWorld & Busch Gardens Fund, The Maryland Zoo and the Association of Zoos and Aquariums travelled to South Africa for the experience of a lifetime.

This group assisted SANCCOB in the tagging, tracking, and data collection of wild and rescued endangered African penguins.

SeaWorld Ambassador Kylene is here to tell you more about her experience: http://bit.ly/2bWpZqO
