Kickout flashing is nice, but when a builder is really serious about preventing water intrusion, they do stuff like this.  That little section of roof sloping away from the house was added to minimize the potential for water intrusion next to the window.  Well done.

Stairs to the basement, so they "faked" stairs to an upstairs for storage and parity?

Possibly.  The bigger concern is decreased life of the furnace and more service calls.

Has anyone ever seen vinyl siding used to cover a soffit?

The extension cord powered outlet at the bottom provided power to this subpanel, which provided power to the garage.
What else is wrong in this picture?

I think we figured out why the kitchen hood fan doesn't seem to move any air.

Agreed; not as bad during the winter though.

That's a furnace vent and vent connector, and the knob sticking out of the vent connector controls a damper, much like those found on metal fireplace chimneys. It doesn't belong in the furnace vent connector. If someone closes the damper, the furnace will backdraft, forcing hazardous exhaust gas into the home. The exhaust gas also contains a lot of moisture; hence the photo title, courtesy of Barry.

Look no further! You've found a great inspection company. Neil was wonderful! He was very detailed and thorough in his inspection. Taking the time to answer all of my questions and making sure I knew all of the ins and outs of the home I was purchasing. I would recommend structure tech to anyone looking for a very thorough inspection! The inspector was very knowledgeable and personable. Great experience!

We had a great experience with Structure Tech. Their infrared inspection is really informative, and found some unexpected spots in the house that didn't have insulation. Our inspection was extremely thorough and the report was very detailed. I've had two inspections for previous homes, and this was by far the best. My very awesome realtor referred us to Structure Tech, so they must have done good work elsewhere as well. They were also very reasonably priced, as some of the places we checked came in at least 10% more.

I could go on and on about how awesome Structure Tech is but I will simply say do not buy a house without it being inspected by Structure Tech. I have had 2 home inspections with George and he was EXTREAMLY knowledgeable in all areas of the house. Want to know if there are problems with the furnace? George will find it. Possible mold/moisture in the attic? George will find it (some inspectors just take a peek, George was up there for 30 minutes). Electrical problems? George will find it. I could keep going, but you get the point. I am going on my third home inspection and although I was sad to see some houses go, I am so happy I backed out of them because there were MAJOR problems. George: YOU'RE THE MAN! YOU ARE WORTH EVERY PENNY!

We were very happy to have Wayne from Structure Tech complete our home inspection. He was very thorough and helped us understand everything that was going into the report, so that nothing was a surprise and we knew what things needed to be fixed right away and what was less urgent. He also took the time to explain how things worked in the home and give advice on what regular maintenance we should complete. As first time home buyers, this did a lot to ease our anxiety and make us more educated about our home. Wayne also said that he welcomed follow-up questions and when we took him up on it, he was once again very friendly and helpful. Phenomenal service.

If you ever ask an inspector at Structure Tech how many inspections is the most one inspector at the company has done for a couple, they will say 4, and we are that couple! We have been trying to buy a home for about 4 months. Not a terribly long period of time but when you have already sold your home and are bunking with your in-laws (God bless them) you are excited to get into a new place of your own. We had the extreme pleasure of working with George. This man can find anything... it was a blessing and (dare say I) a curse... although we would of course want to know all the problems we may encounter in a house, George did seem to feel bad at times when the list would get longer and longer. He would give us very helpful tips and advice about things that could easily be fixed, and honesty about things that would be more difficult. We felt we were in good hands and if we could get the George seal of approval on a house, it was the right one. Looking back now, I know we dodged a few bullets on houses that we had thought looked great from the outside, and now we are in the process of buying our dream house. It probably sounds corny, but it is all thanks to George! He's the best. Our in-laws are even thinking about having their home inspected by him now, just to make sure they are staying on top of any possible issues.

I was an appraiser for 2 years and an insurance agent for 8 years, so I have some knowledge in investigating potential problems in homes and I have to say that Structure Tech is above the standard with home inspection. Millind did our inspection. He was very knowledgeable and professional and we discussed every steps of the inspection as he went through them. The inspection was thorough and neatly done. I couldn't be happier with Structure Tech and MIllind! Communication was excellent all the way through the process from setting up the appointment to getting the report! And the bonus is that Millind is such a great guy to hangout with during the inspection (ours lasted a little over 5 hours, it was a 5,000+ sqft home), he was very professional and never distracted, yet, I felt like he was a friend of mine for years! I Greatly recommend Structure tech!
