Carol Haddad, the latest ABC7 Pay It Forward recipient, spotted us in a Woodland Hills parking lot and didn't hesitate to give to her friend, Katie Johnson.

Johnson was once a real estate client of Haddad's, and they've remained friends ever since. Times have been tough lately for Johnson. She's unemployed and recuperating from a torn anterior cruciate ligament, or ACL. Her car barely runs and the air conditioning doesn't work at all. Johnson also recently marked the anniversary of the death of her daughter, Sara.

The Feed SoCal campaign is in high gear, and one group has found a unique way of collecting food for those who need it.

Move For Hunger works with moving companies, asking customers to donate their unwanted, non-perishable food items, which are then transported to a local food bank.

Fifty-two million Americans go hungry every day. While food banks look for new ways to bring that number down, summer is the toughest time to keep their pantries stocked. One local food bank is trying a unique approach providing healthy fresh produce to help feed the hungry.

During difficult economic times, 1 out of every 6 people in Southern California experiences food insecurity, and especially during the summer, children, veterans, and the elderly hurt the most.

Food banks need your help! We’ve partnered up with Vons and regional food banks to help Feed SoCal throughout the month of July.

We have some sad news to share today. Our former Eyewitness News Inland Empire Bureau Chief Bob Banfield passed away this morning at the age of 82 after a recent battle with cancer. Bob was part of the ABC7 family for 43 years, and was valued and loved by everyone in the station, as well as by the community he served so well.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Bob’s loved ones today as we remember him on his first day as a reporter on May 26, 1967, during a time when gas was 35 cents a gallon, Lyndon Johnson was presidents, and America was at war with Vietnam.

We’ll be sharing more memories of Bob on our newscasts today starting at 11am.

Wendy Parks from Ralphs in Granada Hills is our latest Pay It Forward participant, and she told us about an employee in need.

"I have an employee by the name of Patricia, her mother is dying of cancer, and she can't afford to really take more than one day off because she needs to help her parents out," said Parks.

FEEL GOOD FRIDAY: After winning $500 in a March Madness pool, ABC7 Reporter Elex Michaelson decided it was his time to pay it forward. He returned to his junior high and surprised his former band teacher, Matt McKagan.

The Lindero Canyon Middle School band leader has made an impact on many of his students, and has won several honors for his teaching. He says the money will pay for scholarships so several students can join the summer band.

Who has made a big impact on your life?
