Question of the Day

I have a way of working that often doesn’t seem like work. I hit work hard, hit the ground running, so to speak, but only in small bursts. Anything longer than a solid hour, and my productivity falls though the floor.

Or in other words, I get bored.

I don’t know if that’s an attention deficit thing or not. I’d say not, but I’m far from an expert.

The thing is, in that hour, I can accomplish more than my peers have in a full day. This often leaves my team members and the people who work for me a bit befuddled. They don’t quite get how I can whittle away the hours doing other things, and still hit every deadline given to me.

Except, that is, with writing. When I get truly into telling a story, hours will become minutes as my fingers race to keep up with the events unfolding in my head. Writing is a completely different type of work, for me. It’s not necessarily more challenging, or more rewarding, but it’s definitely different.

So my question for you today, is:

In what ways do you work differently based on the task at hand?
