Electronic Devices etc: Are Electrical Surges The Only Thing You Have To Worry About?

NOPCC directors Don Costello, Vice-President, and Ray Paternostro, President, will discuss their abnormal home electrical experiences, how they survived, and how they protect themselves and their equipment now. They will also suggest solutions to protect your electrical equipment and electronic devices. They will be joined by a licensed electrician to answer questions.

Don is a retired USAF Colonel, former B-52 Strategic Bomber Pilot & Minuteman ICBM Nuclear Missile Launch Officer, in the Strategic Air Command (SAC), as well as, a radio station, WRNO Worldwide Commerical Shortwave radio station engineer. Ray has had a long career in Information Technology, having worked in several enterprise government positions since the 90s. Both are longtime members of NOPC’s Board of Directors and have done several past presentations on various computer subjects.

Placing Smartphone Photos or Videos into Social Media

Longtime NOPCC member, Richard Rowley will cover multiple ways of transferring photos and videos from a smartphone wirelessly into social media websites.

Richard has over 20 years of AutoCad computer experience and has created numerous professional websites. He has written many articles for the club newsletter and this will be his second presentation. His first presentation was “Making Money via Internet”. Richard is also a local professional entertainer/musician.

Anthony Landreneau will speak on security related topics such as information security, network security, personal security including social networking, physical security, and hacking trends.

Anthony is the Director of Information Security & Technology at Louisiana Federal Credit Union, a financial institution located in LaPlace, Louisiana, where he oversees the design, engineering, and deployment of digital solutions in alignment with the organization’s strategic vision. Anthony's skill set includes maintaining security and business continuity in highly volatile environments. During Hurricanes Isaac and Gustave, Anthony and his team sustained business operations for over 26,000 customers in the River Region area by leveraging leading edge and innovative technologies allowing Louisiana FCU to be the only financial institution in its market to continue service its customers despite the regional emergency. Anthony also integrated over 20 third-party vendors while managing the financial institution's largest core conversion project in just eight months.

In addition to 20+ years as an IT professional, Anthony earned the CISSP certification in 2010. He is a member of the British Computer Society, and is a nationally recognized award winning amateur photographer, cyclist and occasional tubist.

Paul E Maassen of WWNO-FM will give a presentation on computer technology in radio station operations. Most of you have seen photos of DJs playing vinyl records or hauling tape carts to the players but now computer tech has relegated those actions to the nostalgia trash heap. Computer technology has become a major part of radio production and broadcasting. You may even learn about totally automated stations where even the DJ has been replaced.

Ridley Boudreaux intends to lean heavily on the Jefferson Parish website, since IT is instrumental in creating or supporting applications on the site. He will highlight the services available to residents and the technology behind the scenes.

Ridley Boudreaux has been the Director of Electronic Information Systems with Jefferson Parish government for seventeen years. This I.T. managing department is comprised of the Management Information Systems Department (MIS), and the Geographic Information Systems Department (GIS). These departments are complemented by contract vendor firms. In a cooperative effort, they serve the parish Administrative (Parish President and his 49 departments) and Legislative (7 Council offices) computer user community by maintaining computer hardware and software, developing software applications, and providing computer user training to parish employees.

Ridley also served in technology capacities at American Classic Voyages, the parent company of the Delta Queen Steamboat Company and American Hawaii Cruises, National Semiconductor, Microdata, and McDonnell Douglas Field Service Co.
