On Tuesday 10 January, 2017 the Australian Financial Review published a story titled “Gas supply terms force buyers to go DIY on energy”. Energetics’ John Bartlett was interviewed for the story, raising the issues that we’ve seen working with large industrial and commercial gas users who are struggling to secure 12 month supply contracts.

+Marcia Devlin +Federation University Australia on Australian Leadership: "As a migrant to Australia, and with a number of current international appointments that provide me with the privilege of frequently visiting other cultures, I can see that one of the features that is unique to Australian leadership is informality. Australian leaders, generally, do not stand on pomp and ceremony. They are, for example, generally comfortable being addressed by their first name and approached informally by junior colleagues. There are exceptions, of course, but generally speaking, Australian leadership is considered ‘down to earth’ by international standards.

"One of the qualities Australian leaders are known worldwide for their commitment to ‘a fair go’ or egalitarianism. This is deeply ingrained in the Australian psyche, including in its political leadership. Reflecting on this a little more, however, I can’t help but think that this ‘fair go’ is often inequitably applied by our leaders and there is no clearer or more current example than the way we treat those seeking asylum in Australia. So I would say we have this quality among leaders in general, and perhaps in theory, but we have work to do to put this into practice for the benefit of all in a global context."
