I've been incredibly busy lately. New job position, a new 2nd job, I joined another dance studio! My new job position demands I spend less time on G+, but I do miss all my plusser friends! I'll try and keep up during my available times!

Great picture!

La Boca Tango.

A romantic moment on the streets of La Boca, a colourful district of Buenos Aires on Day 41 of my trip around the world!

I just landed in Quito, Ecuador. Tomorrow at 6am, I'm heading to the Galapagos Islands for 5 day boat tour. Seeing the wildlife of the Galapagos has always been on my bucket list, so I can't wait to experience it all!

The only downside is I get really nauseous on boats. I'm on a boat aaaand it's going fast aaaannd I'm pukin' all over the captaaainn. Ah well, I have a bag full of gravol and these weird acupressure bracelet thingys that will hopefully make my journey a bit smoother.

And on another exciting note, I've added a new final destination of this worldwide photo adventure of mine -- Austin, Texas! Hope to catch up with everyone at SxSW and +Trey Ratcliff's wild and wonderful photo walk!

More video game/bioware rant. Skip if you don't care. I'll move on to more important things like politics, shoes and dancing soon enough.

The problem that Casey Hudson at Bioware has is he's failed to address why this is a problem. The problem is NOT that it is a Day 1 DLC.

This isn't like adding Shale, Sebastian, Zaeed, or Kasumi. This is even worse than if they made HK-47 a downloadable companion. The problem is that the content of the DLC is extremely pivotal to the entire series. This is like making DLC to add Dragons to Dragon Age, as if they didn't exist before, or making Morrigan (or her child) a DLC companion in Dragon Age III.
I'll still play it, because I've already paid for it all, and maybe seeing the "how" could change my opinion on it, but I honestly don't see it.

*spoiler warning*

If having a Prothean companion isn't "important" to the game's story, then they screwed up on that front too.

I'm sure Dr. Liara "The Prothean Researcher" T'Soni would have a few questions. I'm sure the Citadel Council would have a few things they'd want to ask. Oh, never mind the human race, who, when discovered Prothean technology, catapulted them into being a major role in intergalactic politics and power. I wonder of the Prothean would have any opinions and input regarding the Reapers - you know... the folks Sheppard is single handily trying to stop.

Speaking of Sheppard, I wonder if they would have any interest in the Prothean. I'm sure whatever interest they would have, it wouldn't be important or impacting to the main story.

Please, Bioware. Please, Casey Hudson. I plead to you. The problem isn't just that it is day one DLC. The problem is that it brings in a companion that isn't just something you can simply ignore. It is vital component to the story and lore of a game series people have spent significant time on, and it costs an additional $10. This isn't just a Sebastian or a Kasumi. This is making Obi-Wan Kenobi a DLC for a New Hope.

Bioware defend Mass Effect 3's day one DLC.

Had the same concerns with plotlines being put into DLC's effectively making them essential purchases. This is becoming more and more of a trend not just in Bioware games but in a whole suite of other games in Origin and Steam.

With DAO, I actually ended up waiting it out until they had the complete pack with the DLC expansions.

It looks like I'm officially startin' my professional career as a part-time jazz dance choreographer! Like I wasn't busy already! I'm excited to get back into dancing at some level though.

I'm hoping it will just be a stepping stone into getting back into dancing. I want to get into competitive dancing.

I don't dance but it does make sense. My sister dances competitively as a hobby (Salsa) and pretty much talks about exactly the same points mentioned south of your 1st paragraph.

I generally avoid "political" posts, because I hate hearing the same things argued over and over... but this was just too funny.

Very compelling argument, actually. I've loved Bioware games, but if I hadn't already pre-ordered this game, I probably would have waited in hopes that they reversed their decision with how they've handled this.

I almost didn't watch the video, because I didn't want the spoiler, but it was a 20 minute rant, and I wanted to know what made that guy so compelled to make a video over this. I've got to say, maybe the character isn't "central" to the story, but it might as well be. It's a pretty huge chunk of "Holy crap" that they just packaged up for an additional $10 for people.

His argument of adding this sort of thing to encourage the "new market purchase" is sound, and this was a pretty big screw up. It's also an extremely predatory marketing tactic, because if they were to do this with a game that didn't have the clout of Mass Effect, and it were a brand new intellectual property - it would fail as a scheme. That's not the only thing that makes it predatory. This is only made known because it was "leaked". If it weren't, many people would have already purchased the game, and only found out that they had a game that was, to an extent, incomplete. In order to get a more complete copy, they would have to pay an additional $10 or miss out on something that is a very significant part of the Mass Effect universe.

This won't really effect me, because I did get the deluxe-o-mega version, but it does make me a lot more callous to Bioware and EA. I really hope whoever is calling the shots over this can come out and redeem their reputation.

This sort of tactic makes me want to stop playing video games entirely, because this has been an on-going trend. I don't feel like my loyalty is appreciated or respected.

I almost regret having watched this.

I was looking forward to buying Mass Effect 3... but this move of making a major story element of the game only available if you pay extra is unethical and is a clear abuse of the people they call their valued customers.

They might as well not bother selling the standard edition as it is crippled as compared to the digital deluxe edition.

I hope they change their mind about doing this.

That being said, if people are still willing to pay the extra to get the missing content then EA/BioWare will know that they can get away with doing it This kind of tactic will become a standard practice.
