Where else would you find million dollar cars but in a Google parking lot, and it's a hybrid in true California fashion. GoogleFu points to the first person who can figure out who it belongs to (hint: he works at Google :) ).

Old linksys e1000 router started flaking out, dropping lots of packages. Purchased the Dlink DIR-868L AC1750 router from Frys, there's a store 2 miles from my place now, it's huge, and they price matched with newegg.com! Router's great so far, in my laptop I upgraded to an intel 7260 chip for $24 a few months back, it also supports the 5GHz AC band/frequencies, so I'm finally getting to see what this little chip is capable of with this new router. On the 5GHz 802.11ac wireless, anywhere 1 - 10ft with line of sight the signal is at 780 - 880 mbps. Through one floor/upstairs it's 380mbps, through two - 2.5 walls it's 117mbps. The router also has a USB 3.0 port for attaching a USB drive and supports DLNA, but haven't tried those yet.

seeing lots of posts today about zfs on linux being said to be stable/production ready. Looks like 0.6.3 still doesn't support O_DIRECT, stay away or test your apps (e.g. vm's, db's) heavily on it first :

# fio randread-direct.fio
random: (g=0): rw=randread, bs=4K-4K/4K-4K/4K-4K, ioengine=sync, iodepth=10
...
fio-2.1.10
Starting 12 processes
.
.
fio: looks like your file system does not support direct=1/buffered=0
fio: cache invalidation of /ssd1/fio/testing/random.4.0 failed: Invalid argument
fio: pid=6148, err=22/file:filesetup.c:607, func=open(/ssd1/fio/testing/random.4.0), error=Invalid argument

# modinfo spl | head -2

version:        0.6.3-1
# modinfo zfs | head -2

Overland snapserver products (at least the 620 and older variants) run nothing but linux software raid + lvm + xfs . One of our customers had a snapserver 620 just completely die and refuse to load up into the OS, no output on the front LCD, fans would blow 100% immediately, no output on the serial port. Overland tells us they run a modified linux software raid and that I wouldn't be able to bring it up. A few mins later I'm rsync'ing the data off the drives from another system booted to a centos 6 livecd.
