These are adorable...if you have a Ravelry account. ( And if you knit, crochet, felt or work with fiber, I encourage you to get a Ravelry account.) http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/funny-face-square

How to determine fiber content of fabrics and yarns.  To see more of my posts, please follow +Life's an Expedition
#knitting #crochet #sewing #crafts
Whenever I try to diagnose the fibers in "mystery fabrics" or yarns with missing labels, I find the information online to be very hard to follow, so I came up with this flow chart to make it slightly simpler.  It's only accur...

Who's in the mood for a tear-jerker?
Most middle-of-the-night phone calls in my house are wrong numbers.  That is my first thought one night, shortly after New Year's, when the phone rings.  And without looking at the clock, I know it can't be past midnight, bec...

Still Life and Still Life (A Favorite Books Post)
From personal experience, I know authors struggle with what to title their books. The goal is to give readers a sense of what the book is about and to choose something memorable, but not so memorable it gets used too often, possibly creating confusion when ...

A simple way to take good photos for your online shop.
(But I mostly post as +Life's an Expedition now.)
If you sell online but aren't quite ready to invest in an elaborate photography backdrop and light box for your product shots, here's a solution that costs about $10.  You know those white fold-up displays that kids use for s...

Welcome new followers!  But I am posting from +Life's an Expedition now.

I found a Japanese Kanji symbol I liked, painted it on a scarf (ignore the lint, I'll get that off of there), completely forgot what it meant, gnashed my teeth, then ONE YEAR after finding the symbol, I searched the internet and I figured out what it means!  It's the Japanese word for "independent" or Dokuritsu.   Maybe there's an easier way to search for the meaning of Asian scripts, but I don't know what it is.  I pretty much rely on tattoo parlor websites to help me with my projects. :o)

Someone I just spoke to needs this information, so I'm posting it in my blog.  But--just a reminder--I am now posting from this page on Google Plus:  +Life's an Expedition
I virtually never have problems knitting with multistrand yarn.  Crocheting, yes.  Weaving, a little.   But knitting with it is easy for me... unless one or two strands are chenille.  Azalea is for sale in my Etsy shop.  See...

Story
Tagline
Owns Life's an Expedition. Fiber artist, yarn maker. Loves cycling, cultures, Game of Thrones.
Introduction

When I'm not tearing up a silk sari to weave, knit or crochet something for my online shops, I'm pedaling along the banks of a river near my home. Trees, nature, leaves, primitive artifacts, old books, exotic textiles ...all weave together to form my life.

I'm a Bohemian fiber artist, formerly a copywriter / creative director at 5 ad agencies. The creative director years led me to take a more active interest in art than writing, so I set up a fiber arts business, did the art show circuit, then set up shop online. I became a powerseller on eBay, then branched off into Etsy and other sites.  (See links on this page.)

Although I'm best known as the creator of Life's an Expedition yarns, I am also the author of six unpublished novels, some short stories and even some children's books.  Knopf offered me a publishing contract, but that was 12 years ago and I haven't heard back, so I'm guessing they kissed it off by now.  But, hey, I'm resilient.

I eat, think, sleep, paint, write and ruminate all things creative.  If you're on Google+, I would love to share creative thoughts and photos with you.  If I follow you and you wonder why, it's probably because you love knitting, do fiber art, ride bikes, dig up old dead relics, work in a museum, give advice about Google+ or you're indescribably witty and/or artistic and I feel inspired by you.  So please add me to circles about fiber art, design, archaeology or ancient history, cycling or health.  But not rap music.  I am not a DJ. It's just my nickname.
