Howdy Google+ Users,

A little over a year ago, I purchased an iHome IDL100 Lightning Dock Triple Charging FM Clock Radio with USB Charger. I wanted the triple charging option because I have multiple iOS devices that we need to charge at night and this gadget fit the bill. I was super excited when the Apple Watch was released, and ordered one as soon as I could.
So here is the scenario. My wife and each have an iPhone 6, so when we go to sleep we each place our phones on the lightning connectors on the top of the iHome radio. If I plug the USB charging cord for my Apple Watch into the USB port on the back of the radio, the phones stop charging. If I leave everything plugged in, unplug the power to the IDL100, and then plug the IDL100 back in then EVERYTHING charges without a problem.

So I contact iHome to let them know about the problem under the pretense that they would thank me for the feedback, file a bug, and hopefully this little inconvenience will be addressed in a future firmware update for the radio.

Not so much.

I got the polite "I'm sorry but the Apple Watch is not supported" blow-off answer. The only explanation that I get is:

"The apple watch transmits data and the unit cannot process the data. As long as you have the Apple watch is connected to the unit, the unit will not work properly."

Or this one:

"The unit will support iPhone, iPad, iPod touch or iPod nano. As long as you have the Apple watch is connected to the unit, the unit will not work properly."

No acknowledgement of the fact that if I simply unplug and then plug-in the radio, EVERYTHING works fine.

To me, this is a firmware problem. Something that the could fix IF THEY WANTED TO. Apparently, they don't.

Now to contrast, we have three dogs. The ONLY place we buy beds for our dogs is The Orvis Company. Over the last fifteen years, we have bought five or six beds for our dogs - not many because the beds are supremely well made and last FOREVER!

Unfortunately, while washing one of our beds, the metal part of the zipper that you move along the length of the zipper to "seal" the bedding inside the cover fell off. The bed is several years old, but there is absolutely nothing else wrong with it. The padding is still in great shape and the cover works fine.

I contacted The Orvis Company's support line to see if they had a zipper I can purchase because I do not want to get rid of the bed. The person I spoke with looked up our information, asked for information about the bed that we need a replacement zipper. They sent me a web link and asked me to select the cover that was most like the one we had. When I told the rep, he said the cover I identified would be sent to me within 5 to 7 business days.

I called to buy a zipper and I they are actually sending me a brand new, REPLACEMENT COVER!

So we have iHome, the manufacturer of a product whose firmware can be updated by their engineering team and then deployed (at NO COST) to customers will not address a defect in their product. Contrast that with, the Orvis company who will ship me a REPLACEMENT cover at NO COST to me when I contact them to find out how to buy a replacement zipper.

I can say with certainty that Orvis is the ONLY company from which our family will purchase dog beds. I only wish Orvis made triple charging iOS device dock/clock radios!

This looks to be pretty cool.  I wonder if Apple is looking to do something similar with their nano sim technology.
