As part of my three-part series on Windows 8, I mentioned that one of my annoyances was the inability to run the basic built-in benchmarking tool, the Windows Experience Index (WEI), on my system. Ev...

Right after posting my previous entry, I thought I'd try one more thing to resolve the WEI problem I was experiencing. Every time I've had to do a clean install of either Windows 7 or Windows 8, I've ...

One of the many disadvantages to being out of work is the inability to invest in new toys. My 6-year old self-built PC is really starting to show its age! So I was practically giddy when I was appro...

Introduction
I was born and raised on Cape Cod, but have lived all of my adult life in Pittsburgh, PA.

My mom bought my first computer, a Commodore 64 in 1984. It started out being just for games, then I learned BASIC. After that, it was on to the Amiga 500 which was my first, last and only personally purchased, store-bought computer.

In 1994, I built my first PC (a 486-DX2/66) and have been upgrading and fixing desktop machines ever since.

I am a hardware guy at heart. I know Windows, but I generally don't program (although I spent two years programming exclusively in Visual BASIC). I like the challenge of coding, but find it boring.

Working at Apple is an amazing experience! I've met so many incredibly enthusiastic people and let's face it:  they are the #1 tech company in the world.
Bragging rights
I'm not an egotist. Fixing computers is my thing. I feel I'm very good at it and I'm proud of what I can do. It makes up for the fact that I kinda suck at most everything else.
