For some reason, Facebook decided to let their users vote on their new privacy policy. Like, one of the changes is they’re renaming it; instead of a privacy policy it’s now a data use policy.

Think about this for a moment and you'll see the outcome is predictable. Inevitable.

* hundreds of thousands of people voted
* 87% opposed the new policy
* Facebook is adopting the new policy anyway

This really happened: a court had to decide whether the X-Men are to be classified as human under U.S. law.

This means there is now a legal precedent on this question.

Firefox was sluggish. I went to about:memory. 3GB in ad.doubleclick.net. Closed a tab for a local newspaper. Sluggishness went away.

The internet is really bad without AdBlock.

Breakfast: it's not just for breakfast anymore!

#BreakfastCombo As everyone I’ve ever met knows by now, this is a guessing game. You guess what I’m thinking of. I give hints.

See a previous example of how to play this game:

Q: Why do this? [...]

A: I mean, I think there are only two reasons that make anything worth doing, and one is that you think it's going to be fun, and two, you think it could be—I don’t know a better word for this, but like—the word you use in public broadcasting is excellence. Our mission is excellence.

—Ira Glass, interviewed by David Iverson for KQED.

“If all mankind minus one, were of one opinion, and only one person were of the contrary opinion, mankind would be no more justified in silencing that one person, than he, if he had the power, would be justified in silencing mankind. Were an opinion a personal possession of no value except to the owner; if to be obstructed in the enjoyment of it were simply a private injury, it would make some difference whether the injury was inflicted only on a few persons or on many. But the peculiar evil of silencing the expression of an opinion is, that it is robbing the human race; posterity as well as the existing generation; those who dissent from the opinion, still more than those who hold it. If the opinion is right, they are deprived of the opportunity of exchanging error for truth: if wrong, they lose, what is almost as great a benefit, the clearer perception and livelier impression of truth, produced by its collision with error.”

—John Stuart Mill, On Liberty

Surely everyone reading this is already well aware of Dinosaur Comics. If not, http://www.qwantz.com .

I have a Dinosaur Comics whiteboard. I should make new ones more often; this has been on it for quite some time.
