The food looked okay, but then I ate it. The 'lamb' meat looked more like pork to me, and did not taste too fresh. Unfortunately, I gave it a chance and ate some. Big mistake. I got food poisoning and threw up for two days after that. The place is dingy, the food is overpriced. There are little kids running around all over the place. Normally I support family businesses but not if the family is lazy. Much like in the review below me, this place does not treat non-Mexicans well. Avoid at all costs. There are much friendlier, better priced, and greater quality options in the city.

I'm not a relative or a friend so the review is honest and not so good. This place was in the "Best of Philly 2012" so we went at lunch time and was seated by an overly-cheerful (too cheerful actually) older whiteguy who also was our server and told us the specialty here is the head meat, I asked and he confirmed it was fatty so we explained we don't like things too spicy or too fatty. My wife then ordered the beef cheek tacos and I ordered a sliced beef sandwich and a side of beans. We were served food that contained chopped meat containing a lot of white, gristly fat in bite-sized chunks. I asked the waiter what kind of meat is this and he said "head meat", just as I told him that was not what we ordered he took on a look of "uh-oh, I messed up" and said he'd check with the kitchen. He came back and said "there's no mistake, you got the sliced beef and your wife got the beef cheek", which was a lie so he did not have to admit to the error. I showed him how we both had the same meat on our plates which was a chopped up mess of fat and meat but we had ordered different things, he had no reply except to double check with the kitchen..from the back room he used a loud voice saying "the customer is always right, over and over" then came back and attacked us verbally saying - "There was no mistake, then yelled WHAT DID YOU COME TO A MEXICAN RESTAURANT FOR IF YOU DON'T LIKE SPICE OR FAT? I was ready to throw the food at him, the other patrons asked out loud if that is how they can also expect to be treated, here it doesn't matter what you order, you take what they give....if you don't like it then get out. After being treated like dirt, I told him to cancel the beans and that caused a ruckus also (what kind of place did we walk into? why was it recommended on the best of philly 2012 list?). He brought us the bill and it had the beans on it for $6, I protested and he first tried to say I cancelled too late but then withdrew that and still wanted the $16 for the uneaten food we had rejected. Since he seemed not to be a stable person I put down the money and we walked out, looking over our shoulders all the while. We had walked into a food trap.

Great food - slightly better tacos than Veracruzana for my money - but on the pricey side.
