Very cool!  Cherokee added as the 57th language in Gmail.
This week Cherokee (ᏣᎳᎩ) became the 57th language in +Gmail. +NPR spoke with Joseph Erb, language technologist for the Cherokee Nation, and Craig Cornelius, Google software engineer working on internationalization, about the update: http://goo.gl/twWrg

It's estimated that only 8,000 of the Cherokee Nation's 290,000 members speak Cherokee fluently—and most of those speakers are older. By adding Cherokee as an option in Gmail (it was added to search in 2011), the hope is that more young people will begin to use the language on a daily basis. Fun fact: the word for email in Cherokee is translated as "lightning paper."
