How To Communicate Effectively

People often don't believe, dismiss, or ignore what we say. So if our words aren't the best way to communicate, how do we communicate effectively?

The most effective way to communicate is with our actions.

Actions, not words - that's how to communicate effectively.

"Thank You Mom" (to all Moms) - Sorry You Haven't Heard It Enough

Being a mom is a job that doesn't get a lot of praise and appreciation in the moment. It takes years, often decades for a lot of us to really appreciate our moms and say, "thank you mom."

Yesterday I posted that we usually don't appreciate moments until they become a precious memory (http://goo.gl/e9w9R) - here's the reality of that for moms.

Let's share this and say "thank you mom" to all the moms on Google+. Sorry you haven't heard 'thank you' often enough.

Do People Want The Truth or Lies?

Truth or Lies - do people really want to hear the truth?

It seems a lot of people would rather be comforted with a lie than risk the possibility of being hurt by the truth. I see this a lot in personal relationships. When hearing the truth, people often turn on the defenses and deny, attack, or shift the focus somewhere else.

Truth or Lies? The truth could hurt more, but lies definitely hurt a lot longer.

Yes try it.
Can Men Change?

Many men tell me in counseling that they can't change. "This is just who I am. You can't change your DNA, right?" So can men change? I tell them that I believe men can change, and that changing their thoughts, feelings or behavior has nothing to do with their DNA.

Maybe a better way to tell men they can change is to tell them don't worry about changing -- Just Grow Up. Growing up is actually a win-win for them and those around them. They really should try it.

If there ever was a message that needs to spread, this is sure it. Not just so men can change, but women too. In fact, we all probably have some place in our lives where we need to change by growing up (me too). Can men change? Yes, by growing up.

How Our Minds Justify Actions

When someone wants to justify their actions they can get pretty creative with the rationale, excuse making or blaming. The bottom line is that if any of us wants to justify our actions, we can twist our thinking into making it so.

Let's all remember that we don't have to justify actions when we do the right thing - only when we do the wrong thing. And wrong is wrong no matter how we justify our actions.

Life's just a whole lot easier when we Quit Trying To Make Wrong Right.
