I have bought coffee from this shop for 5 years. The other day I had a bad cup that they put my coffee in. I came back once to fix the issue, and the cup still leaked everywhere. So I was in a hurry to my class and had to throw the coffee away. I went in the next day to buy a pound of coffee, and asked if they might replace my cup of coffee that I had to throw away. The curly haired chubby fellow preceded to roll his eyes and laugh at me for asking this of the coffee house. So I told him to just keep the cup of coffee if he was gong to mock me, and left. I then called SOHO to try and find the owners to get a resolution and let them know how bad their employees were treating their customers. This idiot John Marx (the owner) then told me that my business wasn't needed and I could buy my coffee elsewhere. Because his shop sold a bad cup that spilled all over me, and his employee was a jerk and made matters worse, now I need to buy my coffee elsewhere. The customer service is non existent at this place. Avoid at all cost. They sell overpriced coffee and then when you have an issue with it then your wrong. What idiots (the Marx's). Update: Funny thing that almost all the 5 star reviews are by "anonymous" google users. Hmmm.

Best coffee around! My husband was stationed in Elizabeth City 2 years ago and we loved going to this coffeehouse. When we moved we were very upset that the local coffeehouses didn't live up to Muddys. We still order coffee from them and get it shipped to us! We really loved the atmosphere and the employees know you by name. We miss the home town feeling, but when my husband has to go back to Elizabeth City for advance schooling every once in a while he is still greeted by the employees warmly who still remember him!

I have been visiting Muddys for over ten years, when in the area visiting my daughter. Lately I have been venturing out of my coffee comfort zone and have found the Chai Latte a huge hit (I order it dirty with espresso). I can also say that the last time I was in I had a strawberry fit lite smoothy that was out of this world. So wether you want amazing coffee, chai, or smoothies, MUDDY's ROCKS them all. It also helps that they have free wifi, clean bathrooms, and helpful staff! Love this place!

Flies everywhere. Almost no electric sockets. Flies everywhere. Looks like they've never mopped the floor.

In 2008, I began dating my now husband, who is originally from Elizabeth City. I was from Charleston, SC and used to charming, delicious coffee houses with locally roasted expresso and coffees. I was bummed at first thinking there couldn't possibly be delicious non-Starbucks coffee in such a small city. Low and behold, my mother-in-law brought me by this place, telling me how she goes nearly every day. I was beyond impressed! Great coffees roasted in house and espresso beans! Also there are nearly 20 different blends of their whole bean coffee available to buy in bulk. As it turns out, I got stationed in Elizabeth City in 2012 and applied for a part time job with Muddys to help pay off my student loans. Despite my limited availability, John and Audra Marx very kindly gave a me a job on the spot. As I began working there, I realized why their product was so good: high-quality ingredients, fresh homemade baked goods, friendly, caring, loyal employees and a true love of coffee by all. I was blown away by how honest and dedicated each person was who worked there. I immediately loved them all and their passion for their work and pride in maintaining a good business. Overall Muddy's is a joy to be a customer at and also a wonderful business to work for. I can't wait to come back!

After living in numerous states across the country, I can honestly say that the atmosphere and vibe you get when you walk into Muddy's is the bees knees. One of the best. Why do you ask? Well let me tell you: 1. The entire staff is super friendly. Like down to earth, know your name, remember your drink, ask you about your day friendly. Beth, Ben, Molls, Chels, and the rest of the gang are always there, rain or shine, to feed your daily caffeine addiction. And they are all super adorable, so that's great too! 2. It's a great place to run into people. Social interaction is what keeps us going and what better than to grab a cup of your favorite beverage and chat with friends and people you don't get to see everyday. It's great to have a place in this lil' town where you know you will leave with a smile. 3. 9 times out of 10 you will run into one of the super rad owners there. You will see Audra behind the counter whipping up something amazing (Did I mention that she makes their baked goods from scratch?!) or John roasting the coffee (and coming up with his own creations like bourbon barrel infused coffee!) while chatting with customers. Where else do you actually get to chat with the owners? Those two. They work their tush's off on the daily and their hard work definitely does not go unnoticed! 4. I come for the tea, I don't even drink coffee. BUT if my body allowed me the honor, Muddy's would be my coffee of choice! Thats how much I friggen love this place, the staff and the crazy awesome owners! <3
