Anyone taking the PSAT in 2013 is supposed to write out a certain sentence in cursive (sometimes known as “script”) - or at any rate not in “print” (we suspect an “italic” or hybrid style might do)...

Debunking the Myths of Home Education in “Class Dismissed”

Advocates for Home Education in Massachusetts (AHEM) will sponsor the Boston screening of the world's 1st feature-length documentary exploring the rapidly growing homeschool movement! “Class Dismissed,” a revealing new documentary which explores the challenges and triumphs of home education, will be screened Monday, December 1, 7:30 pm at the Regent Theatre, 7 Medford St., Arlington, MA, with the filmmaker in attendance.

Short Synopsis: Frustrated with the traditional school system, a family in L.A. pulls their two kids out of school and takes their education into their own hands. Class Dismissed takes a fresh look at what it means to be educated in the 21st century and explores the rapidly growing movement of parents providing an education outside a classroom setting.

Get your tickets here: http://cdboston.brownpapertickets.com/. Admission $10.  AHEM (http://www.ahem.info) will be on hand with info about homeschooling in Massachusetts.

This is the complete episode of John Holt and two homeschooling families contending with a fairly hostile audience (one person is so mean in their comments about one of the homeschooled children that Donahue cuts her off!). Though it is from 1981, I think all the criticisms, responses, and issues are pretty much the same today despite the continued growth of homeschooling. What do you think?
