The VSKYLABS DC-3/C-47 Flying Lab Project v2.7 will introduce some experimental damage representation.

Initially (v2.7) will represent various damage states for exceeding Vne, over-g, flaps over-speed, prop seizure (high speed impact).

These are the first steps into thorough damage representation, in which the virtual aircraft will be formed out of multiple parts and pieces to represent multiple stages of aircraft damage. It is an experimental effort that is a part of the VSKYLABS DC-3/C-47 FLP development road map.

Here is a short video, showing a damaged aircraft impacting the ground to test the props and other damage visualization look and feel (version v2.7 that will be released very soon). May this and other crash scenarios will ever never needed to be experienced, seen or visualized...but once X-Plane is featuring thorough aircraft damage and failure simulation, there is no reason not to try and include it into the virtual models.

Short inspection of the icing visualization within the under development version v2.7, seen during some specularity/opacity evaluation out in the sun. You can not/ barely have or see icing in a sunny day/clear skies. Some of the shots were taken in pause-mode, because in some percentage of icing, the aircraft is very difficult to/or uncontrollable due to the severe effect of the icing on the flight dynamics model.

The VSKYLABS DC-3/C-47 Flying Lab Project new variant, the XC-47C is having a good progress!

The XC-47C just completed its ground handing and water operations evaluation.

Water operations are smooth and predictable, and like it's big brother, the real XC-47C, it likes calms waters.

There are a few things to consider when flying it, especially its low-speed handling characteristics. All will be thoroughly detailed soon!

Here are some more screenshots!

The Jet-Pack! Extension of yesterday's post...

In between "serious" aircraft development matters...this is one of the most addictive VR experiences I've had for quite some time in X-Plane.

While flying around in urban landscapes, it feels much more tight and dangerous than shown in the flat, narrow 2D video. That helipad on top is very high, and the sensation of height is very immersive. Got me really concentrated for a moment when I was looking for the best timing for a safe touchdown. As noted before, real peripheral, 3D vision of the VR gear does magic and makes control possible with a little effort (after all, a Jet-Pack needs a pilot to handle it).

In the testing and development prototype, fuel is not-limited. It sure saves a lot of stress up there, and makes me think of installing a safety parachute.

When time is right, high-resolution textures will be applied, and it will be fully animated (hands and sticks, legs on flight, head motion etc...).

No cockpit of any kind will be installed. This is going to be a VR dedicated aircraft. I have plans to use FMOD sounds extensively and to create a smart aural notifications and information system, adding another "interaction layer" with the environment for flying assistance.

Ok...enough talking...here are *a few* video cuts from yesterday's trials. Urban scenery can get the system stressed-up using VR, resulting some lagging and stuttering in the head-set. Some of the trials were flown with objects density at medium settings (in the rendering options).

...I must do this flight again, during night time!.

Meanwhile at VSKYLABS...

The VSKYLABS Jet-Pack X2 is under development as a background process here at the 'labs.

Amazing...It is almost impossible to fly and maneuver the Jet-Pack in 2D mode for more that a few seconds...but once wearing the VR gear...Oh, boy!

Took off from one of the streets in Seattle (default scenery)...VR 3D peripheral vision fixed everything...what an easy ride! feels like there is almost total control of what's going on, as long as flight altitude AGL is not high enough to loose the "grip" on airspeed and altitude management.

After chasing some cars and landing in a park, I Hopped up and landed on one of the Helipads on top of one of the sky scrapers. WOW!

Touch controllers...research is in progress. It is possible to control the Jet Pack only with the use of two touch controllers, but refinements should be made...slowly but surely it will get to the right spot.

Currently there is no specific release window to this project, but stay tuned for further developments...

Here are some screenshots, taken from that roof top:

VSKYLABS have completed its initial VR-First-Impact-Plan, with the completion of VR layer updates to leading projects.

In the near future, all of the existing VSKYLABS projects will have full VR compatibility as a standard. Upcoming new projects are already having VR compatibility as a design standard.

The VSKYLABS Tecnam P2006T was just updated to version v4.3 and it is now Fully VR optimized!

Phase II of optimization was completed successfully, and the constantly under development project is now an all-VR-capable!

It was flown extensively with VR, but it worth saying that design for VR is a new and evolving territory (both for X-Plane's team themselves, and for sure for the add-on aircraft designers), and with its own limitations. The "VR readiness" will continue to be fine tuned as another aspect of the project.

NON-VR-Users: having a model optimized for VR meaning that it is featuring a much more thorough and precise mouse manipulators. Using the knobs, switches, handles etc...is much more accurate and "right". In addition, every update is getting it's own non-VR related fixes...for example, setting the timer to work with the mouse, or other systems/flight dynamics/3D modeling improvements.

Anyways...attached is a video, showcasing some of the less-familiar spots of the VSKYLABS P2006T.

Bloopers at the 'labs: 00:11:00 in the video, I'm closing the door while standing outside the aircraft and get locked outside LOL!

The VSKYLABS Aeropro EuroFOX VR update was just released!!!

Current version is now v4.0

What's new?

The EuroFOX was fitted with a tuned and optimized manipulators suit for VR (Virtual Reality) - every lever, handle, switch, knob, sticks are fully compatible with the use of the touch controllers.

The package is also including a new FMOD sound pack (which is constantly under develop as well).

Some more tuneups to the Flight Dynamics Model (the Tundra tire variant is a bit more "dirty" now), and some more systems refinements.

Attached is a video showing some of the fully-VR operations of the EuroFOX. I was having a blast in the Alaska scenery (default scenery). It is so natural to fly it with the touch controllers...it becomes a second nature after 5 seconds. At the end of the video I landed on a glacier and stood outside of the aircraft. Although default scenery...the low-res/2D video is reflecting only bits and pieces of the immersion...standing somewhere...outside the aircraft...really an amazing evening it was!

Inside the video information there are time-tables for some of the events in the video.

Project's page: http://www.vskylabs.com/2016/12/aeropro-eurofox.html

The aircraft is available at the VSKYLABS and at the X-Plane.org stores.

VSKYLABS Scheibe SF-25C Falke UPDATE RELEASED!

The package was just updated to version v1.0b

That is a fix for the weird engine sound that was noticed on some hardware configurations.

The update is already available!
