PTC Instruments has Pipe Thermometers!
These thermometers work on a convection-radiation principle. The instrument is quickly fastened to a pipe by pushing the spring clip over the pipe until it snaps into place. The insulating and seating cup rests on the surface of the pipe and protects the bimetal sensor from drafts. http://www.ptc1.com/pipe_thermometers.htm

This is so cool!
An infrared sensor that could improve NASA's ability to detect and track asteroids passed a critical design test in an environment that mimicked the temperatures and pressures of deep space.

The test assessed performance of the Near Earth Object Camera, or NEOCam, the cornerstone instrument for a proposed space-based asteroid-hunting telescope.

Great Image! Thanks +NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory
Sun warms up for solar maximum with strong M-class flare - The frequency of solar flares is increasing as the sun's 11-year activity cycle is ramping up toward solar maximum, which is due to peak in late 2013.

A stunning photo of a M6.5 class flare — the strongest flare seen so far this year — is captured at 3:16 EDT on April 11 by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory. This image is a composite of light wavelengths at 131 and 171 Angstroms.
