There are at least 4 open, decentralized standards for identity on the web: OpenID, webfinger, W3C's WebID, and Mozilla's BrowserID. (Those are a prominent ones; there are a bunch of others you've never heard of.) They each have their strengths and slightly different use-cases, but the proliferation of standards is unfortunate.

The solution is clearly to invent yet another standard to rule them all. Let's call it OpenWebBrowserIDFinger ;-)
